GM Seirawan is one of the best chess teachers/authors in the US today. His book is fun introduction to chess tactics and mates that captivates kids pretty easily. I used this book early on with my twin boys (at the time they were 6 years old and unrated) to supplement my own instruction to them. Now that they are 9 years old and rated 1770 and 1683, I find them still browsing back through the book just for fun. This is the first book I recommend to people who have kids beginning in chess but are also serious about it and really want to improve.
