We bought this for my 5-year old daughter last year, and we play the games from this book on a *daily* basis. Our 3-year old joins in to play some games as well.This package includes a Game Rules book plus a deck of 40 cards, which uses Family Members (Father/Mother/Sister/Brother) instead of the typical Hearts/Diamonds/Clubs/Spades, and jungle animals rather than numbers/royalty cards. The book teaches the kids "young" versions of card games, from "memory" to Rummy to War and many many more!Awesome, awesome, awesome! VERY welcome change of pace from Hi-Ho-Cherry-O and Chutes-and-Ladders! I'm looking forward now to "MORE Card Games for Little Kids".
I have used this set with several grandchildren, and they are a great hit. The cards are much easier for young children to use than a standard deck. Many classic card games have been revamped in the book, and we have several favorites, but we also adapt the cards to other games. For example, Old Maid has become Sneaky Snake for our family. The suggested games have a nice range in number of players and level of difficulty. Our grandkids began playing the simplest game when they were four.
This book would be a great boon for little kids if the required special deck of cards accompanied it!Unfortunately, the book is worthless without the cards, and try as I may I can't seem to get the deck from distributor or publisher. kindly reimbursed me my money for this transaction.
My grandson is 5 1/2 and wants to participate with his older sister (15), parents, and grandparents. Although these are juvenile -- after all they are for little kids, the card games give him a chance to participate. If we ever have to go without the TV and other electronics, I think this book will definitely be an even bigger hit and they are already.
My daughter got this game for Christmas from her grandparents. She spent two weeks of her Christmas visit playing lots of games from the book. Some are a little tricky to figure out but she loves it and it keeps her occupied and entertained for a long time.
