Who Was Thomas Alva Edison?
Read Free Books and Download eBooks

One day in 1882, Thomas Edison flipped a switch that lit up lower Manhattan with incandescent light and changed the way people live ever after. The electric light bulb was only one of thousands of Edison’s inventions, which include the phonograph and the kinetoscope, an early precursor to the movie camera. As a boy, observing a robin catch a worm and then take flight, he fed a playmate a mixture of worms and water to see if she could fly! Here’s an accessible, appealing biography with 100 black-and-white illustrations.

Great book to spark an interest in history and geography for children. My son teaches history and geography and these are the type of books I purchased when my children were little. I always wondered where my son got his love of history and realized these type of books were what I read quite often growing up. They always held my interest and I knew my children would love reading if they had similar books. Molly Pitcher and Thomas Edison were my subjects in grade school when I won D.A.R. awards!

This is part of a series about famous people, this book focusing on Thomas Edison. It is basically a list of different embellished stories about Thomas Edison. I'm not an expert on Edison, but from the writing a lot of the stories are heavily enriched and enhanced to make them interesting to kids. As an example, I really liked one quote in the book from Edison, so I googled it, and this book is the only place on the internet where that Edison quote appears. Did the author dramatize the quote, or did the author have access to Edison's secret scrolls? This book is definitely worth a read, and it's good for kids, but don't use this as a reference for a book report, or you'll probably get a C- for bad information.Pros:+Lots and lots of stories about a famous figure.+Good introduction to EdisonCons:-For a kid's book, the narrator should have been a little more exciting. I listened to the audio book, and the reader reads too flatly and too slowly-There is no way that all of these "facts" are actually true

I bought these for my third grade classroom. They are great for the biography genre and then to use for report writing. The three years I've used them so far the kids LOVED them. Easy for their reading levels, informative, and people they have heard of in their lives. They would read their own and then read other that they had heard of. Could have left these books out 1/2 year and they would have still been reading them.

the "who was" book series is FANTASTIC for introducting 2nd-4th graders on many of the wonderful people that dot our history. information is very readable and factual with nice little drawings to give added detail. Highly recommend!

An interesting biography of Edison. However, it is a bit excessive in its content straining to the boring side for a read aloud to kids. My kids, for reference, can follow Magic Tree House chapter books with no issue and listen for 4 chapters or more with no wiggles. The Edison book, not so much. Still, they were glad to hear his story.

This was a gift for my grandson for Christmas and he tells me it was good. He is an avid reader and enjoys a variety of subjects. I also gave him" Who Was Harry Houdini?, Who Was George Washington?, and Who Was Walt Disney?". He enjoyed them all.

My grandson discovered these books at school and asked me to include them in our reading program at home. He absolutely loves them, and I'm excited to read books that teach him history. Well done!!!

I LOVE THIS BOOK I am only 10 but this book is amazing I have to do a biography and I am,during this book because it's short and easy. Great book
