As an elementary art teacher, I always keep my eyes open for power-packed, informative, interesting, art-related books. This book is excellent in helping children relate to the artist's individual style ("...his trees look like broccoli") and comparing Wood's style to similar styles of his inspirational fellow artists. The children especially love the fictional yet funny cartoons relating to the artist's life. This book successfully portrays Grant Wood's love of his homeland.
This whole series on Art is fantastic, informative and fun for all ages. I had a great time reading it to my 5-year old, and my 7-year old loves to read it by herself and look at the pictures. The descriptions are brief and to the point, and the author's illustrations make it fun. Once I bought a couple of books from these series, my kids asked for more. Highly recommend.
Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists, Grant Wood is another entertaining and informative edition in this fantastic collection by Mike Venezia. These books are perfect for exposing elementary and junior high aged students to a large variety of artists and styles of art.
This book had wonderful pictures of the artist's work, fun illustrations and an informative text to go with it. A great addition to any classroom or home library.
Excellent series.
