I let my early reader 5 year old son order this set through the Scholastic book program at his preschool. He chose it because of both the Lego and DC superhero themes (and I approved because of the teaching phonics element.) They are skinny little books, don't take up much room, and are very short little stories to hold even the narrowest of toddler attentions. The small book size and light weight makes books easy to carry for small hands, and the box makes it easy to keep organized and/or take on-the-go.The box contains 10 story books and two phonics workbooks. The box shows a twelve ninety nine suggested retail, so any price less than this is good. Most early readers retail three to four dollars each, so this set is a fantastic deal. Each story book has words in bold that identify the phonic sound (ie short a, short o, etc) emphasized for that story. There is a list of these words on the back cover of each story book. Most are 3 and 4 letter words, and my 3 year old daughter (not yet reading) likes to look at this list and we sound out the words together. Sentences in the stories are short like "I will not hide this time" (long I sound) and "get that cat" (short A). The graphics are smooth and colourful, printed well. I really thought for such inexpensive books they would not be as nice. The work books are a good resource for reinforcing these sounds, but I really hate the idea of writing in them so we just go through and do the activities verbally.Superhero loving parents and kids alike will enjoy seeing their favorite characters in Lego form. Green Lantern, Superman, Barman, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Bane, Joker, Two Face, The Flash, and more make appearances. I would definitely buy this set again to give as a gift.
