I bought this for a 4 yr old with a 1 yr old baby brother. If I had read the book to him he would have learned some Fathers like one of their sons better than the other, and that the son not liked can hate the favorite. He would also learn that blonde well muscled strong children are favored over thin black haired children. I purchased this for my nephew who absolutely loves Thor. He is dressing up as him for Halloween and had to have a book that the character was in. He is in kindergarden and this is a great level book for him. He was so happy to have it and just wants to keep reading it over and over. The story is good and the illustrations are nice. It is a great book for beginning readers.
Great book for my super-hero loving toddler. We have all of the This is series (Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Thor, Xmen, and Avengers). They are great introductions to the characters with good illustrations.
I got this book as part of a 6-book set, World of Reading Marvel Boxed Set: Level 1 - Purchase Includes Marvel eBook!. While my son likes the Spiderman book the most, he still likes me to read the other ones as well.As with other Level 1 World of Reading books, the comic has very simple sentences that a young kid will be able to read. My four year old still cannot read them, but can now recognize simple words like "his", "is", "they"; and even some more complex as "secret". I use my finger to index the story, and he reads what he cans, while I complete the rest. I expect he will be able to read all of them when he is five, but even now he enjoys to sit and look at the pictures!Compared to other comics in the set, this Thor one is a little different. The story flow is not very well written; it describes Thor's planer an family, then explains how he got his hammer, and then explains that he also is a doctor on Earth. My son had a little trouble to understand the jumps between past/present, but after a while he is ok with it.On the good side, this book as wonderful illustrations. While the Spiderman book has very simple pictures of Peter and Spidey, this Thor book as a few gorgeous pages with planets, monsters and fights. I attach a picture of one of the most impressive page. It might be a little violent/creepy, but you cannot deny the effort on the illustrations!Overall, while not my favorite World of Reading book, this is still worth buying, especially if you are building a collection!
My 4 year old son loves Thor/Super Heroes stories. We were trying to teach him to read using conventional Dick and Jane books but he was just not interested. However, with this book he is actually beginning to recognize words and is actually interested in remembering them
Finally a series of books that my 5-year old is motivated to try to read by himself! Nice illustrations.
I bought several of these for my Nephew for his 5th Birthday. He loves them. They were a perfect gift. And my sister loves that they will help him with his reading.
My daughter loves Thor and was excited to get this book. It should help her with learning to read as she is getting ready for preschool this summer.
