Just what we needed as I try to navigate the recent death of my father with my children. Todd Parr is amazing.

I bought this for my 5 year old granddaughter when it was clear she was going to lose her golden retriever. When the time came, and her mother pulled it out to read it to her...her mother thanked me.I think Todd Parr hits the mark in all his books.,.& so have chosen many of them for my grandchildren before. This one is no exception.

This is such a simple, but beautiful book on dealing with loss and death for both children and adults. Not easy to find anything that helps ease the pain of losing a loved one, but Todd has done it. I bought one for myself. Thanks Todd!

This was great for exploring feelings arising from the loss of a pet for our 3.5 year old. Very simple sentences for little ones to understand. It doesn't mention what happens to your loved one or where they go, so it is great regardless of individual family beliefs.

Beautiful book that allows caregivers to talk to children about loss in a developmentally appropriate, sensitive and honest way. Love love love.

We liked The Mommy Book also by Todd Parr, so when I saw he had a new book out, I was excited to read it. Since I was used to the very whimsical/funny tone of the previous book, it was not exactly what I expected (I didn't read the reviews so I didn't know the "goodbye" was actually specifically referring to dying... as opposed to leaving for a short time and coming back). However, for what it is, it is really beautiful."It's really hard to say goodbye to someone." the book begins. The book then goes through a variety of emotions that one may feel after a loved one dies- from sad to mad to not knowing how you feel. It ends on an encouraging note- to remember the happy times you shared with your loved one. The illustrations follow a goldfish who lost his dear goldfish friend but the text is vague enough that it could apply to a pet or family member. As for a recommendation, I fully recommend this book as a way to help children cope and think through their feelings after the loss of a loved one but I also think that it would be good for some adults too. When someone you know loses a loved one, it can be hard to know what to say. We all want to help and encourage them- maybe this book, along with a note that you are thinking of them would be a good way to do just that.I fully recomm

Todd Parr visited the primary school where I teach and read this book to the kids. They loved it, and I had to buy it as soon as it was out. Even though it is about a heavy topic (death or loss in general), Todd keeps it kid-friendly with just the right balance of playfulness and seriousness. I love using literature like this to touch on difficult topics with young kids.

This books talks about the hard parts of saying goodbye to a friend. It shows through the lives of two fish friends. It would be helpful in discussing the situation. Like the bright colors and simple illustrations.
