My grandson loves to draw and draw and draw. I have purchased various drawing books for him; but this is one of his absolute favorites. I compared this book and the way it teaches you to draw with the others I have given him. I feel Ms Levy has a better way of teaching than the others. I have since purchased others of hers for my grandson and will be gifting him with many more. I liked how each page had a place to draw on. As a grandmother I liked this, so years from now you would have a snapshot of his drawing, and sketching as he matured.
My son likes to draw, but he is no artist. Rather, he is a doodler, who can teach himself to draw simple things. So when I saw this book, I thought it would be just right for him. And I was absolutely right, because Barbara Soloff Levy does an excellent job of simplifying how to draw dinosaurs, includes blank pages to practice next to the instructions, and gives lots of different types of dinos to choose from. Highly recommended!
My 5 1/2 year old loved this. It was a good match for his skill level, maybe a little older. I have looked at others and this one included space in the book to draw, which some do not. For his age, having the drawing space next to the examples was preferable.
LIKE ALL THE DOVER LEARN TO DRAW BOOKS.....THIS ONE IS ANOTHER WINNER. THE SIMPLE ACT OF BREAKING DOWN A DRAWING TO BASIC SHAPES IS SO HELPFUL WHEN WORKING WITH YOUNG INSPIRING ARTISTS. HAVE NOT YET CAME UPON A SUBJECT THAT A STUDENT HAS ASKED FOR THAT DOVER DID NOT HAVE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
i bought this for my 4 and 7 year old nieces but also secretly for me!!! i've been drawing dinosaurs with sidewalk chalk with them. it gets old drawing the same things, so the dinosaurs really spiced things up!! it works great for the 7 year old, the 4 year old could care less if her pictures looked like anything!
Perfect for my 7 year old grandson. He loves art and dinosaurs so it was a perfect fit. It's easy to use and any child with an interest in drawing can follow the steps and end up with a very good likeness. Well worth the money!!
My organization is auctioning off a artists created Christmas Tree for a community Children's Mental Health benefit. There will be wrapped gifts for children underneath art related. We included this drawing book along with art supplies. When I received it I was able to read and actually try some of the drawing tips. I am an artist and found that this book will be not only exciting and interesting, it explains easily how to draw. I feel that the directions are clear and easy for a child to follow and learn from..
I learned to draw some dinosaurs but it was too complicated for my 5 year old. My 11 year old did better but even she struggled. In the end I drew the pictures and the kids colored them. We enjoyed a wintery afternoon of drawing fun.
