This first book of Harry and the Bucket full of dinosaurs was really cute. He found a box of dinosaurs in the attic. He cleaned them and repaired them. He was moved to research the names of each dinosaur. He took very good care of them and they went everywhere with him. One day on an exciting trip with his grandma on a train he forgot them and they were left behind on the train. His gran bought him a video to take their place. But that couldn't replace them. He is inconsolable. Finally Gran takes him to the train station to check the lost and found. Harry has to prove they are his by naming them, which he does. His dinosaurs are happy to see him and they whisper to him "You are definitely our Harry, definitely!"We got two more of the series but they didn't have the same charm. It could be they are for younger kids. My boy is 4. They were ok but never his favorites.
My 3 year old son loves dinosaurs. This is a cute story; however, I am not very happy that the book uses the word "stupid." If I had known this beforehand, I probably wouldn't have purchased it.
A sweet story and overall a pretty good book. I do not like that the older sister calls the toys stupid multiple times. We had to edit the language in this book for very young children. Four stars for the nice, but not really spectacular story. Minus one star for the teen sister with a bad attitude. We don't really read the book much, even though my son absolutely loves reading and is a dino fan.
My five-year-old grandson loves this book. He has many dinosaurs and carries them around wherever he goes so this story was definitely one he loved. I highly recommend this book. It's very colorful and the pages are made of strong material so it won't bend and curl like some other books. He also carries this book around with him along with his dinosaurs.
My son (just turned 2) refused to leave school without this book. We've had it now for a week and I've read it to him now approx 1.8 billion times, and I now have to return the book, so I'm getting his own copy. I don't know if this is a boy thing or just a kid thing, but he is absolutly fascinated by dinosaurs now and can even point out where tyrannosaurus is or stegmalopohopanopalisaurus (he actually knows the names better than I do). The book itself is not any kind of dino expert book, its just a very simple sweet storry about a boy and his toy dinos, but somehow it really struck a chord with my son.
Little boys are constantly pressured to love super heroes. But young boys (and girls) also love dinosaurs and are fascinated by them. This book offers a very compelling story about a boy who loves his dinosaurs more than videos on TV. It is both instructive (all the names are in the front and some are listed)and engrossing.
I really love this story! It's so sweet and creative. I love that each page the dinosaurs grow bigger and bigger (reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are-- each page of that story grows bigger and bigger too). I love that this boy loves his dinosaurs. I love that he defends himself against his annoying older sister (there are some criticisms that the word "stupid" is used, which perplexes me as "stupid" is not a bad word unless you are calling a PERSON stupid). I just love reading this to my son who in turn loves hearing it since he loves dinosaurs. Did I use the word "love" enough?
My 2 1/2 year old son loves this show on netflix. When I stumbled upon the book on I was thrilled to surprise him with it. He absolutely loves it and recognized it from the show immediately. Very cute book. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
