If pets could talk, what would they say? Maybe “Fur is for petting, backs are for scratching, noses are for nuzzling . . . and tails are not for pulling!” Toddlers and pets belong together—as long as toddlers don’t chase, grab, squeeze, yank, and tease. In simple words and delightful illustrations, this book teaches the basics of kindness to animals: careful handling, awareness, safety, and respect. It also includes helpful tips for parents and caregivers.

If you have pets and you have young kids, this is a great book to read with them about respecting the boundaries and limits of animals. Told simply with cute, colorful pictures, your child will understand how to treat their own furry family members. The last two pages of the board book have tips for parents and caregivers about how to use the book with your child to help them respect an animal's feelings.

My little 22 month old granddaughter loves this book. The pictures are colorful and cheerful and the message is so positive. There aren't any pets at her house but her other grandparents have two dogs and my husband and I have a cat so it was a book that I thought might help her understand that pets have feelings too. She wanted it read to her several times the day I gave it to her and her mommy says she reads it to her at least once or twice on the days she'll be visiting the kitty or puppies. It was a great success.

This book and the others from THE BEST BEHAVIOR series has been very helpful in letting young one know right away that our animals are fun, but not for rough play. I've even noticed my child saying to one of their neighborhood friends outside with the dog, "don't pull Rocky's tail, it might make him mad". This warms my heart to see they are listening, but that they are also showing other kids that it isn't alright to rough play with dogs and cats. All the books in this series have these same undertones for the little ones. You are enjoying reading to them, you aren't lecturing them or yelling at them for doing something that would naturally occur to any kid. You are instructing them on how to best enjoy their pets and teaching them respect for animals. We started this book about 6 months of age and read off and on for the first 18 months, more when he started crawling and walking and could chase the dog around. That wagging tail was motivation to get moving. Now at age 3 he knows to not pull the cats tail or mess with Rocky. Seeing my son tell the 2 year old next door is proof that they will learn all good manners with a calm and fun reading time.

This is probably my favorite out of the whole series. We have Hands are not for Hitting and Teeth are not for Biting. This book is super cute and is a fun story with all the animal pictures plus a good lesson about how we treat pets and how they tell us when they don't like something.

I ordered the board book version thru Kindle which was great to introduce my daughter to the concepts in the book. But it turned out that the longer version for older kids was better for her as it has helped her be more empathetic towards our pets.

Bought this for a friend's two year old that was being rough with their dog and cat. They called me and said they loved the book and that their son really liked when they read it to them. Hopefully he will start to be more gentle with the animals. They said they were considering some of the other books listed on the back.

I love these series of books! I am collecting them all as I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old foster sons with behavioral issues and these books are fun for them to look at and it gets on their level. Having animals in the house this book is a must.

Our two-year-old loves this book and tells us "No pulling!" We just got it yesterday, and we have read it together at least ten times, at her insistence. Also, it was used and in great condition.
