Newbery Medal-winning author Beverly Cleary gives Henry's dog, Ribsy, the center stage in this dog's-eye view of the adventure of a lifetime. Good ol' Ribsy's ever-curious mind has always gotten him into scrapes, but this time he may have gone too far. After a comical turn of events, Ribsy finds himself in the wrong station wagon with the wrong children. Ribsy will do anything to find Henry, but there's plenty of excitement to be had along the way—and scoring a touchdown for a local high school team is only part of the fun!

Like one of the other posters, I was introduced to this book when my 4th grade teacher (Mrs. Evelyn Smith, thank you wherever you are) would read a chapter apiece to us every day after lunch. We were awed into suspence, wondering if poor old Ribsy would ever find his way home. So I later bought the book and occasionally read it to my nephews and nieces nearly 30 years later. If you want your kids to love reading, I suggest that you buy this, read a chapter a night before bedtime, and soon they will want to read it themselves to find out what hapened next. May God Bless the memory of Bevery Cleary.

Our teacher read this to us in the 5th grade and I never forgot it. I loved it so much I bought my own copy with my allowance and read it again-twice. Now I buy it for all my cousins, nieces and nephews and my friends children and they love it, too. It lead me to read the other wonderful stories by Cleary which I also highly recommend.

Ribsy gets into the wrong car at a shopping center, and soon finds himself lost, far away from Henry Huggins and no idea of how to get home. He undergoes a series of adventures, almost all of them related to encounters with people from different walks of life who treat him in different ways. A desperate Henry keeps searching, but as time passes, it seems that the two might never be reunited. This is a very different book for Cleary. Not only is she writing about things from Ribsy's perspective, but she also wanders into the homes of several people who are fundamentally different from wholesome Huggins and Quimby families. Letting us see people who want to use Ribsy for their own ends gives us a glimpse into human nature that doesn't come through in the Ramona books. These differences make this book stand out from the other Cleary books, and I really enjoyed it as a child. There are some quirky and imaginative adventures in store for Ribsy, and it's easy to get invested in the desires of the dog and the boy, who just want to find each other and be happy together. This is one of the best books from among Cleary's early work, and I recommend it for anyone who might not be interested in her other books.

Michele's Book Review Henry and Ribsy is a wonderful book. Henry and Ribsy are funny. It's descriptive and has adventure. This book is about a boy named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wanted to go fishing so bad. When his father said "Yes" henry was proud! So they went fishing with his father and his dog Ribsy. Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish! Henry and Ribsy are funny! It was humorous when Romona sat on ribsy and yanked his ears. It was funny when Henry put two strings on a bone tied the two string to his two teeth and summoned Ribsy, and Ribsy ran with the bone and pulled out Henry's two teeth. It was descriptive when Henry told about how he was going to pull out his two front teeth. It was also descriptive when Henry trys to make up a story trying to bluff his friends that his hair is not messed up. It was a real adventure when Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish. I couldn't stop reading when Ribsy fell out of the boat.

In my opinion, this is one of Cleary's finest.I first got into it when my 2nd grade teacher read it to our class. It is about a dog, Ribsy, who is very much loved by his owner Henry Huggins. He climbs out of his family's car in a shopping mall parking lot and decides to do a bit of exploring. He then decides he wants to go back to the family car and go home, but he can't identify the car. He tries to find his way back home, but can't find the way. Many people take him into their homes but he is never content to stay.Kids who own pets of their own will be able to relate to Henry's sadness over his missing dog, and his determination to find him no matter what. The illustrations are adorable.

This year, when Mr. Huggins goes fishing, his son Henry wants to come, too. But Henry's dog Ribsy is causing trouble. So they make a deal, if Henry can keep Ribsy out of trouble for a month, Mr. Huggins will take him fishing. Henry thinks it'll be easy, but he soon learns it's going to be harder then he thought. This book was my first introduction to Beverly Cleary, so it holds a special place in my heart. Henry's adventures are real, funny, and heart-warming. The chapter "Ramona and the PTA" is not to be missed; it's a riot.I highly recommend this kid's classic.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books that are fun to read and books that have you wanting to read the next page and never stop reading. This book is very good and I think that it would be better for the younger aged kids, around 8 years old and up. This book keeps you wanting to read on and see what happens next. When I was done reading Henry and Ribsy, I noticed that I was never bored while reading. This book is a very easy book to read and it never gets slow. It's a fun book to read. The New York Times says, "Ribsy complicates life as only a loyal, bumbling, well-intentioned mutt can. Few writers for children handle everyday comedy so realistically as Beverly Cleary." Another quote by the magazine Kirkus says, "Henry's audience is in for more laughs. Another Cleary hit!" The magazine Booklist says, "Genuinely funny". Those quotes describe the story very well and describe how the book Henry And Ribsy is a fun book to read.

My 7 year old grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ribsy while driving. In fact my grandson would beg me to stay in the parked car once we were home so he could continue to listen. Of course I couldn't do that because I had to know what was happening next to Ribsy also. It's a delightful story for both young and slightly older ears.
