After seeing the movie, my daughter wanted the story version. While this book is cute, it's more introductory to the pets in the movie, not the movie storyline. Depending on why you want this book, that can be great or disappointing. Spoiler...as with everything else "SLofPets", the bird character is not included in this book. Overall, it's cute, but not what expected.
Bought this for two boys ages 4 and 5. Both looked at me as if to say "where's the story?". That sums up this review. Each page introduces a character. No story, just an introduction. Just a way for them to hype the movie before hitting theaters.At the VERY least, they could have tried to write some type of something interesting.Waste of money!
I suppose I should have expected I wouldn't be getting a synopsis of the entire movie when the book was released before the film, but needless to say I was very disappointed to discover this is a book that is an exact synopsis of the trailer only. They should have taken a cue from Disney. We bought the Golden Book for Finding Dory, (also released before the film's release) and was the entire story through to the end.
Shortened version of the story, and it skips all the semi scary parts that a kid might be frightened by in the movies. Just the basics of the main characters are described here. It is a nice intro book for the movie.
Another great addition to the golden book collection. Kids loved the movie and the book was a nice read in the days that followed. My oldest is at that stage where he is begining to read independently and this was a good book for him.
My boys (5 and 1 1/2) love this book.We haven't seen the movie yet, but they know the names of the animals and bring this book to me to read to them all the time. It is a basic introduction of some of the main characters. It does not give away the whole story of the movie! So it would be fun to read before you head out to the theater. I expect it will still be fun after the movie as the kids enjoy seeing the characters again.
I purchased this book before we took our 6 yr old grandson to the movie. Immediately after we returned home I gave him the book. He was thrilled. It brought back all the characters in his mind and he definitely enjoyed it. He is reading at a 2nd grade level going into 1st grade and this was perfect for him.
This has the feel of the classic golden book era illustrations. Fun. Great texture. If you are an fan of retro inspired illustration, buy it for your collection.
