If you have, or teach, children between the ages of 8 and 12, you need this book. It takes complicated stuff, including environmental sustainability, wars, and immortality, and makes them accessible to kids. By asking big questions, talking to experts about potential answers, and providing educational activities, this book allows children to explore ideas and opinions that may not have occurred to them before. It expands horizons, and encourages active curiosity. It is truly a gift to educators and parents who want their children to never stop being curious, and to engage with the world around them.
I bought this book for my little brother as a gift. My brother is 11 and if you were to ask him questions like "Why do you think ...." or "How do you think...", his answer have always been "eh, I don't know". He tends to have a "it is what it is" sort of mentality...or at least he did. After reading through this book with him, we now have a daily game that sometimes happens starting with his question, "What if...". Just yesterday he asked "What if all the students in a school were in the same class." I mean, that's real creative and innovative thinking!I love this book and would love to see another like it written for adults looking to stretch and exercise their abilities to think creatively! Great stuff. Grab a copy!
It's not too often that you find a book that will leave both yourself and child giddy about questioning whatif? The authors did a great job of creating activities that are exciting, engaging and will leave you wanting more.
One of the best things you can do for your children is to let them think for themselves. This book is full of fun, quirky and surprising scenarios that will send both kids and adults on a journey to accept all of the possibilities.
I'm so impressed by the creativity and thoughtfulness that obviously went into the making of this book. Not only is it full of fun questions to encourage active curiosity in the reader, but it is also designed in a way that is perfectly digestible for young adolescents. This would be a great book to crack open at the dinner table for engaging family conversation or before bedtime to inspire colorful dreams. The topics covered are so varied that there is something for every child to dig into. It's also printed in colorful ink (which I think is just plain fun) and includes lots of quotations from kids that will help your child relate to the questions being posed. Parents or caretakers will enjoy reading The Book of What If...? at least as much as the 8-12 year old child they are exploring with!
What if two little words were the most powerful force in human history? That might seem hyperbolic, but it is so easy to demonstrate. What if we strike flint against a rock? What if we cook the meat from an animal? What if we use the materials around us to build shelter? What if we use an engine to propel an ordinary buggy? What if we could send a signal wirelessly through the air? What if we used a rocket to leave Earth and travel to the moon? What if anything was possible if you ask the right questions? What if nothing was possible without “we”? The current generation needs young minds to solve our greatest problems. This book is a great step in the process and a valuable tool to set young minds on the path. And it all starts with those two little words.
Parents often complain that they can't get their kids to talk to them anymore. Buy them this book and you'll never have that problem again! Children are instinctively curious animals and this book gives them permission to explore their curiosity by posing tens and tens of "What if..." questions. By imagining what could be, children are preparing for what will be when they rule the world!
The Book of What If...? is designed for turning the curiosity of children into actionable innovation for the future. The What If...? process developed by co-author Matt Murray removes barriers created by the traditional education system by engaging children and often times adults with the ability to learn, collaborate, and create in variety of styles and scenarios. Highly recommended for any child, educator, or parent!
