I don't know if this book will result in better test scores. What I do know is that analogies are always on tests that you see in public schools (standardized tests). I also know that thinking in analogies, using analogies while you explain something is a good skill to have in your life. This book begins with a simple explanation of what an analogy is and simple example analogies. Your child will start just picking words that fill in the blank and end up writing analogies. My 9 year old enjoyed this book for homeschooling and has asked for the next in the set.Enjoy.
This does a really great job of explaining how analogies work, and it walks kids through the steps of categorizing and solving analogies at a good, thorough pace. Marking as 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a few ambiguous analogies that even I (as a former literature professor) had to look up in the answer pages.
Great critical thinking activities! My 3rd grade daughter is doing great with these activities. The instructions for each activity are clear and concise. Very pleased - just wish it was two or three times the size! We're moving through it pretty quickly.
I bought this book to prepare my daughter for GATE exam. Not only it helped her but she totally enjoyed it and was sad that it was over.
This book was a little advanced for my 8 year who just started 3rd grade, but it is easy enough for him to grasp the concepts. I think that this is a great jump start for the 3rd grade and a great book to have to keep your child in a "study" mind through the summer. I'm glad I bought it!
