I strongly reccomend this book to parents who would like to share the wonderful story of America's greatest president with their children. This book is great for reading to your kids and discussing with them afterward. The authors of this book do an excellent job of touching on the life of Ronald Reagan, especially his childhood, withou showing any type of bias.
This biography of Ronald Reagan focuses on his youth/childhood and provides numerous examples of how early experiences influenced later actions. Whether one approves or disapproves of Reagan's politics or presidency, this is one of a series of biographies that can be instructive for children while also entertaining. The reading level is for the average 4-5th grader.
My 9 year old son loved this book and quickly shifted from learning about Ronald Reagan to a sparked interest in the Cold War and defense technology. History in story format is very accessible to children (and adults) and I think the Childhood of Famous Americans series does a great job at sparking interest in important historical figures. I would recommend this series and specifically this book to anyone who has an interest in Ronald Reagan. This series works great as a read aloud, but this one my son enjoyed on his own time.
Ronald Reagan, Young Leader was an entertaining look into the life and times of Ronald Reagan, or Dutch, focusing primarily on his youth, high school, and acting career; then briefly covering his time as Governor of California on through to the White House. Other than the last couple chapters, which read too much like a typical biography filled with fact after fact, the book read more like a novel where you observe the main character growing up. This is a fantastic series that humanizes these larger than life important people of history.
