Named a Smithsonian Notable Book for Children for 2010 Theodore Roosevelt’s heart was as big as the great outdoors he loved. A sickly, undersized boy, he grew into a physically fit, energetic man whose courage knew no bounds. Roosevelt hailed from the top of American society, but wealth could not shield him from human tragedy. As leader of a young, vigorous nation, he steered a middle course between the power brokers of big business and the needs of ordinary working people. A keen student of nature, Roosevelt would protect millions of acres for posterity. He was a writer, ranchman, politician, soldier, explorer, family man, and America’s 26th president, the youngest person to ever hold the office.            Theodore Roosevelt for Kids brings to life this fascinating man, an American giant whose flaws were there for all the world to see. Twenty-one hands-on activities offer a useful glimpse at Roosevelt’s work and times. Readers will create a Native American toy, explore the effects of erosion, go on a modern big game hunt with a camera, and make felted teddy bears. The text includes a time line, online resources, and reading list for further study. And through it all, readers will appreciate how one man lived a “Bully!” life and made the word his very own.

Theodore Roosevelt for Kids is a well-researched biography of the 26th president of the United States. The book begins with a time line of the president's life. The subsequent chapters tell the story of his life from his asthma-inflicted boyhood to his death at the age of sixty-one.Author, Kerrie Logan Hollihan, did an excellent job not only in researching the life of Theodore Roosevelt, but also in making the book an interesting read. It is definitely not a boring history book. There are plenty of photographs of the president, as well as pictures from that period in history. A fun feature for kids, is the 21 activities that are included. These are easy-to-do, and definitely related to the life and times of Theodore Roosevelt. Some of my personal favorites are making a "pigskin notebook," making a delicious dessert called "Old Insult," and making a campaigne button.Theodore Roosevelt for Kids is an excellent resource for kids and teachers who are doing research on the president. It is also an excellent book for anyone wishing to learn more about Theodore Roosevelt. I highly recommend this book for readers age nine through adult.

Theodore Roosevelt for Kids is a comprehensive look into Teddy Roosevelt's life. It begins with "Teedie," as he was called, an asthmatic and bullied boy, and it follows his development into a charming and outgoing man who loved the outdoors and physical activity. What's fascinating about this book is that we not only learn about Teddy Roosevelt the person, we learn about the culture of the time period. For instance, it was unseemly for wealthy people to enter politics in the 1880s when Teddy was a young man. It's information like this that adds depth to the story and will help readers put Teddy's actions into the context of the times. In addition to the engaging story of Teddy Roosevelt, there are numerous photographs as well as 21 informative and fun activities, such as "Identify the Crook!" and "Make a Campaign Button."I highly recommend this book for adults as well as young readers.

This book is for young readers, but it's a fascinating read for adults as well. Kerrie Logan Hollihan brings Theodore Roosevelt and his times to life with her well-researched and well-written book. While full of information, THEODORE ROOSEVELT FOR KIDS is accessible and fun to read. Interesting details, well-placed quotes by and about Roosevelt, excellent photos and illustrations, and intriguing sidebars enrich this wonderful presidential biography. The activities are genuinely useful and educational but still appealing to kids.

Love the format -- rich with historic details interspersed with photos, illustrations, and practical learning activities. Very readable. A great addition to classrooms and libraries and for those just plain interested in this president.

This thorough and fascinating story of Theodore Roosevelt kept me turning the pages till the very end. I bought two copies for my nieces - I should have purchased a third for myself. It's a keeper!!!
