This is a good story about a girl and the pup she wishes she could own. The family is going on a camping holiday with a nice big tent provided for them on the camp site. They have two weeks and as luck would have it, just across the river is a German Shepherd breeder with a litter of pups. We see quite a lot of this setup to show us what a good, responsible breeder should be doing, how the pups should be reared and socialised, how good homes are ready to take the pups so they will not be going to a pet shop or anything. The disadvantage of playing with pups is that of course you will want to adopt one and take it home. Especially the one with the floppy ear who just loves attention. But the family has a small house, a shepherd is a big dog, and all these pups are taken anyway, as soon as they are old enough. Secretly wanting one just doesn't work... or does it?Parents and young people alike will learn lots from this read and there are cute pictures. Good for ages five up to eight I would think.

My 8 year old daughter loves this series of dog/cat chapter books by Holly Webb! Easy to read and pictures (sketches) every few pages, easy to follow.
