This book is alright. There really isn't a whole lot to it. You can only wiggle your finger around for so long before a kid gets bored. The wording isn't anything fancy to read and that's my biggest issue. I gave it 3 stars because its a puppet book. I have some other books that are excellent and exciting for my son, this just isn't one of them.
My son is almost 6 months and this is one of the few books he won't fuss through. The owl puppet keeps him really engaged in the story. And I love the fact that his first impulse is not to stuff the book in his mouth. Yes, the story is simple and I can't even recall much of it now despite having read it a lot, but that does not bother me.Reading some of the other reviews, it seems this may not be the best option for an older baby. But, the fact that a 6 month old (and younger) loves sitting through this book is wonderful.
My little sweetie loves Owls…or "Ahhh-Wools".She originally had the horse version of this book that we found in a book store, so we got this one from "Santa" in her stocking.Its the best of both worlds, a book and a finger puppet…awesome!Very well made, durable, and easy story to read over and OVER 89 times before nap.It's a sweet little book, and the perfect size for little hands, diaper bags, and luggage!
It was a gift for my one year old niece. She seems to like it. I think the whole series of books are very cute. The pages are sturdy, and the finger puppets are adorable. Great book for a small child.
I was a little disappointed at how small the book was, but it is very thick and sturdy as far as a board book goes so it is almost indestructable. The illustrations and story are very very simple, but it worked for the storytime I was planning as an educator. The owl face doesn't look straight-on, and over all this was just an okay book.
With pictures of rodents and other small creatures on the pages - the text reads: "There's no reason to worry or fret - with Ollie around, there can be no threat. . . .He can gas and gaze for hours on end. To the creatures of the night, he's a loyal friend.This book is Owl propaganda!! He is not a friend to creatures of the night. Ollie will eat the creatures of the night! We have chickens and the Ollie Owl in our neighborhood killed them by eating their heads and leaving the carcasses for us to clean up.
This is a very cute book and it was entertaining for my neices and even for my dog... he couldn't figure out what it was so he did the famous head tilt that boxers are famous for! I would recommend this! It is different than your typical book, it adds a fun extra dimension.
My 18 month old LOVES this book. He picked it out at the store himself, he has recently learned the sign for owl and how to say owl, so was very excited to find this book. He loves to cuddle the owl when I make the puppet, and he also loves to make the puppet himself. I'm putting more of these books on his Christmas list, they're adorable.
