Iâd actually love to see a movie version of The Last Kids on Earth, which tells a comic story about a team of friends facing off against zombies and monsters at the end(?) of the world. I enjoyed the first person narration as it describes the clever weapons and tactics they use to mostly avoid â and occasionally fend off â the monstrous people of this small town. The story moves along quickly, with lots of fun humor. My concerns that the book might turn grotesque or violent were unfounded, and I found that the characters, which include the hero/narrator, a strong female (who is definitely not in distress), a brainy friend, and a now-reformed bully, do a good job of showing how great teams can succeed together. I also really liked the illustrations that were part of the story, too. I really appreciated the fun and wholesome messages about friendship, teamwork, and trying to be happy and enjoy life â even during difficult circumstances.
I want to thank Max Brallier, for writing this amazing book. I was having the hardest time getting my 11 year old son to read, he got this book 2 days ago and he was finish last night. He was so excited talking about this book, it filled my heart with so much joy because I never saw him excited about a book. He is so disappointed that he has to wait until August for the next installment. Again thank you Mr. Brallier
I just finished reading this to my 10 year old. He loved it and is already asking for the sequel. He couldn't sit still while I read it, constantly up and down, wandering around me, looking at the pictures and absolutely entranced and excited by the story. After I finished he took the book from me and was looking through at all the pictures and the map in anticipation of where the next book would lead our heroes. I am sure he will re-read this himself many times. I hope Max Brallier puts out The Zombie Parade soon because my son has already declared this as the best book series there is.
We bought this for our 10 almost 11 year old boy! He loves this book and doesn't want to put it down! Its very easy to read. Keeps my son very interested to keep reading! The pictures are great! We highly recommend this book to other kids his age!
Thirteen-year-old Jack Sullivan is a foster child who is surviving the monster apocalypse without adult help. He lives in a tree-house, plays video games and defeats monsters. We haven't finished the book yet, but this might be the best book in the universe for my dyslexic, zombie crazed, video-game-loving eight year old son. We gave it to him as a birthday gift along with Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare for the X-Box One. He BEGS me to read to him from it every day. I read him 2 chapters per day and it's not enough. He talks about the characters as though they are real people. After I read it to him this first time, my plan it to have him read it to me. It is very engaging for him and has a lot of pictures to support the text. I am a second grade teacher and would say that this book is appropriate for most third or fourth grade students who read at grade level, or older students. It would be a challenging read for most second graders and some third graders. If you're sensitive to language like "stupid" being used in a children's book, you may cringe a little sometimes. The language, though, is not too bad and in my opinion well worth it considering how engaging the book is for my reluctant reader. I would recommend this book.
This was a stocking stuffer and my son loves it. He's almost done reading the whole book. He's a big walking dead fan so I thought he might like this too and I was right ! I'll be buying the other books from this author
I'm currently reading this book with my 4th grader. It's a wonderful combination of graphic novel and chapter book. There is a lot of excitement, which is keeping my reluctant reader engaged with the book and the pictures are a great addition.
This is a wonderful book. I met the author in the summer of 2015 when he was in Princeton, NJ at a children's book show (before the release) and he spoke briefly about the book. The inner child was very excited to actually read the content. When it finally arrived, I was delighted to find that it was well written and the illustrations are wonderful. The format isn't traditional but that's what I loved a lot about it. I highly recommend this book for parents that have creative-mind kids or adults that want to indulge in a great adventure. I also recommend it as a reference for beginning children's book writers.
