This version of the three little pigs has the STUPIDEST placement of illustrations -- there's no picture of the straw house, five pages worth of pictures of a part of the story I have never even heard of before, no picture of the two pigs running to their brother's house, no picture of the wolf blowing down the straw house, NO picture of huffing or puffing at all. My three year old keeps asking me what the straw house looks like, or what a kettle of boiling water is. The illustrations themselves are attractive enough -- the selections of which scenes to illustrate is downright moronic and frustrates me every time I attempt to read it again.
This book does not contain very important pictures such as the straw house, the wolf puffing...etc I reccomend it to collectors, because is a very interesting book, but if you are a teacher, and you need it for working, this is not the correct book...
Both my children love the story of the three little pigs. It is a classic that most people have heard of. Up until now I was telling the story from my memory but then, based on the good reviews I decided to buy this book.For the $2.50 price, it is a pretty decent book and I can say that the story is way longer than I remembered it to be from my childhood. However, I agree with the complaints of other reviewers about the illustrations not being really attractive for the child. It would be great to see an illustration of wolf pushing the walls and bringing them down but rather than that you see miniature images of various gestures of wolf and the pigs, which does not help at all.Another complaint is about the binding of the book. The hard cover is a plus for this price but it looks like an elementary school student's project. Papers are stapled together and covered with hard cardboard is all you get. It is definitely not ergonomic and it is difficult to keep the book open without inserting a finger between pages which is an adult's job and my 3 years old son really struggles changing the pages or keeping the book open without collapsing on itself.If you are after a book that you are planing to read loud to your child, then considering the comprehensive story with some rhymes, this book may be a good option. However, if you want your toddler or preschooler to play around the pages and enjoy looking at the images while you are telling the story, then considering the inadequate pictures and non-ergonomic design, you may want to consider another version...
This is a shortened version of the original Fisher-Price version. The Fisher-Price version was MUCH better. This one cuts out a LOT of the story. I stopped reading this to my 3 year old after one reading and instead just show her the Disney video of this on YouTube. Which is cute. She loves it. The Golden Book suffers as many Golden books do of having to fit the story in limited pages. It makes it choppy and leaves out all the fun. I can't stand Golden Books anymore for that reason.
Golden books have always been a favorite of mine and I was most happy to purchase these for our great-grandchild who hopefully will love books as much as we do. The story is timeless and a good way to introduce stories to little people. Everybody likes the Three Little Pigs and this is a nice copy for a little one to own all of their own. I would make the purchase again.
I am a HUGE fan of Golden Books. They are so nostalgic and I can remember my Grandpa reading them to me when I was a child. I ordered this book for my sisters "Books" Baby shower theme to set out next to the pig in the blankets. It did a great job at serving its purpose. I even heard many people reminisce and discuss the Golden Books they had when they were children. However, like other stated the illustrations aren't that great, but it is still a good story.
I was looking for some easy to read and well illustrated books for my kids and we had been role playing the three little pigs at home. I figured getting a classic like this from the golden book catalog would be very nice.however, once I received the book, it was clear that it was almost 'too classic.' There were very few illustrations and the story didn't have the same lines or cadence that I remembered.I guess that's what I get for assuming and buying books sight unseen.
Classic story from my childhood. my 3 year old really enjoys when we read this together. Her favorite is to say "huff and puff and blow your house down" . Each page has a good vintage illustrations on them. I am very happy with my purchase and the price here on is much cheaper than in the bookstore by me. There were no flaws on my book and it arrived on time.
