OK, I have a 10 year old daughter and a 14 year old son. My experience with the series is limited to the movies and flipping through a few pages. Here is our experience with the book, "Third Wheel." The moment the book arrived I had to break up a minor fight over who got the book first. We went to a 15 minute oven timer to determine turns. After an hour my son relented to my daughter. She read the book, cover to cover, in the first night. She reports it is the best book in the series. My son took two days to read it. He generally would rather read sports magazines, but thoroughly enjoyed the book. He rates it as solid in the series, but not the best one ever (unlike my daughter). Well spent money. If you know the series I'm sure you know what you are getting. From a Dad's perspective I like it WAAAY better than the Dork Diaries (not quite as snotty). Enjoy!

A great read. It's well written and I plowed through it in one sitting. I could not put it down. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, and I pondered throughout the entire book. You know you just finished reading something great when you get towards the end and you start to panic because you don't want it to end. I thought all the characters were well flushed out and added something interesting to the story. I don't know how I can write a review without giving away the plot, so all I can say you need to read this. You won't regret it.

This book can be split into two sections:the first 50 pages cover Greg's early-early childhood (pre-diary) and then the rest of the book is about school, girls, and a dance.Greg Heffley has been increasingly more interested in girls as the series progresses, but he often quits his pursuit early. 'The Third Wheel' shows Greg as more focused and eager in his attempts to woo. Greg is even a bit more considerate of others although he still does things that also yield personal benefit. The first portion was kind of funny but I didn't care for story-line. The second half was better and more cohesive but not as humorous.I hate to critique these books. I really do like them but personally this one falls flat in many areas in contrast to the previous books.

As a school librarian, I love the Diary of a Wimpy kid series. They are funny, and the kids want to read them over and over, which is awesome. I was eager to read the newest edition, especially since I knew it would be about a school dance. I know Greg is in middle school, but fans of the books are as young as first grade. I wanted to see how the topic was handled, but I should have known the dance would be more about Greg's mishaps than romance.Although it's not the best book in the series, I still enjoyed the latest Greg drama--getting locked in the laundry room while babysitting, having his mom come to school to make him take off his jacket, and even Greg getting kicked out of kindergarten. And that's all before the senior citizens crash the dance. Each situation is humorously written, and fans will enjoy getting to know a little bit of Greg's past while seeing him worm his way out of his current predicament.I've read some reviews that mention the topics jump around, and while I thought the beginning of the book that compared Greg's childhood to Manny's was a little long, I thought Kinney tied the ending back to the beginning, which was a nice touch and great conclusion to the story.Fans of the story, both young and old, will enjoy this latest book.

Diary of Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel is the most hilarious book I have ever read. It is about a boy named Greg Hefley who gets bullied, embarrassed, and horrified. He has a lot of morons in his class. His dad acts like a teenager, which is really weird. His little brother Mandy is very annoying to Greg. He has a best friend named Rowley. He has another brother named Roderick who also annoys him. Greg really wishes that he could become famous. This book is magnificent. I like it because I feel like I am related to Greg. My favorite part is when Greg is in the girl’s bathroom in his underwear! That is so ridiculous! My other favorite part is when Greg sits in poo!Have you ever gotten tingles of giggles when you read certain books? Well, this book is one of them! You will get so many giggles you may end up on the floor. This is the best book ever! I’d give this more than five stars if I could.

My son loves to read and he started reading these books at school and requested that he adds these books to his collection. They are very durable books with a funny story line that will keep your child engaged for a day or two. I'm glad that my son reread his books or I would be broke buying new books every other day. His personal library is pretty impressive. I bought this book second hand and it was in immaculate condition.

Well, it's probably just me, but I had a lot of difficulty downloading this. (Since it probably is just a problem with my internet connection, Don't put much stock in that.) Otherwise it was a little lackluster compared to the previous books, it felt like in general there was less meat to the story. Still very amusing and sounds like a real middle schooler. Also, it seems to ignore its continuity at times--it's still introducing new characters and old ones seem to be disappearing, like Chirag Gupta and Holly Hills--actually, every girl that featured in a previous book is missing, which is weird especially because the whole plot is about Greg trying have a relationship with a girl.
