This book is the best Big Nate book, and possibly the last. The last novel "Big Nate Blasts Off" also looks like it is the last one, based on the back of the book. As another 6th grader who can relate completly to this book, I accept this, and all the other books. I hope you find this review helpfulP. S. Have you noticed that Nate has been in 6th grade for more than 15 years?
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My oldest daughter has always been a fan of comic strips like Calvin & Hobbes, Foxtrot, and Peanuts. One of her most favorite strips is Lincoln Peirceâs Big Nate series, so she was very excited when I received the opportunity to read Big Nate: Thunka, Thunka, Thunka.Nate is a sixth grade boy, and heâs easy for kids to relate to. He has some sarcastic comments to make about school, he hangs out with his friends, and he plays sports. We have several of the Big Nate books, and what my daughter (and I) like about them is that there is a punchline on just about every page, but Peirce is also building larger storylines.Thunka, Thunka, Thunka contains several story arcs, including Nate making a bet with nemesis Gina that he can stay out of trouble (and detention) for a whole week, Nateâs Christmas present for his sister, and Nateâs dog falling in love with a cat and taking up knitting. There are even some throwbacks to previous collections. The humor is quirky and fun. There are some pop culture references, but not as many as other strips like Foxtrot. My daughter loves Big Nate, and as she read through this book, I heard her laughing constantly.I would recommend Big Nate: Thunka, Thunka, Thunka. You donât have to have read the other Big Nate comics in order to understand this book; there are some references for fans, but itâs pretty easy to pick up the dynamic between Nate and the people in his life. My daughter enthusiastically recommends this book to anyone!
I'm 66 years old, and I love Nate! Lincoln Peirce keeps me in touch with myself as a young boy, but the lessons to be learned from his work are timeless. I've purchased every book in the series, and I hope to pass them along to my grandson when his reading abilities are sufficient.
My 8 year old son was excited when this book came in! He has several Big Nate books and loves every single one of them. He loves the comic book feel of them. He finished it within the first day and has read it a few times since then!
Do not buy this book. It's drawings are horrible and you can't even download this on androids. If you try to download it on an android then it will automatically cancel your download and you will lose your money
Big Nate: Thunka, Thunka, Thunka is a collection of comic strips that tell short stories and will make you laugh. Nate is in grade 6 and is dealing with the types of problems adolescents face every day. The book is made up of secions that are made up of several short comics. Some of the storylines are Hallowe'en, his baseball team and their name, getting in trouble at school and his dog who is in love with a cat. There are some stories that refer back to stories from previous books, but you do not need to read them in order to enjoy them. All in all, a funny enough series.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Big Nate is the funniest! I tried hitting myself with a water bottle it felt good, AND made the sound "thunka, thunka, thunka" just like in the book. I recommend this book to anybody 7 and up! In this book there is a lot of very funny parts that everyone will like! In fact, I think you should read the whole SERIES! This was one of my favorite Big Nate books. But my real favorite was Big Nate On A Roll*! If you like Big Nate I recommend reading Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. You should also read Baby Mouse if you like Big Nate. I hope you have fun reading it!!!!*If you want more Big Nate search on the Kindle store!
For those of you who don't know, Big Nate is a comic strip by Lincoln Peirce that started it's run in 1991. And here we are, in 2016, were Big Nate is still going strong. I can't believe it's 2016 and Big Nate is still popular. So this is a new comic complication entitled "Thunka, Thunka, Thunka and it covers strips from October 2011 to April 2012. It is very entertaining.I recommend this to kids ages 7 and up. Bye for now!
