I ordered this for my soon to be 3rd Grader who's writing has steadily gotten worse each year. He loves Star Wars so I hoped this would help with his fundamental writing skills. He loved looking at the book, but not quite as excited about actually working in the book. So far it is at least showing him the correct way to form his letters. Will update after we complete the book.
I love Star Wars! And so does my son! This book is a handwriting book. Which is fine. The use of Star Wars words is fun, but most of them as way too complicated for a kindergartener. So I read the words to him and he writes them. This book, as with all of the book in this series, are really small. Very thin books. I'll keep buying them as supplement because my son loves them, but I wouldn't use them as your core curriculum.
We got this workbook and a couple other Star Wars ones from the publisher to review on my blog, and it is by far my preschooler's favorite set of workbooks we have ever tried. He always does well with tracing, but has so far been pretty tentative about trying to write letters on his own. With this book, he is finally doing it! The Star Wars theme really captures his imagination and makes him *want* to keep doing pages in this book. I think this book is really well done.
My 6 year old loves this workbook. The cartoon pictures are adorable and each letter has a theme. He's on a 2nd grade reading level, but his handwriting is the worst in the kinder class. I'm hoping this book will improve his handwriting skills. He reads the sentence for each letter and then traces the upper case and lower case. Then he traces and reads the words on the second page. Every letter also gets a fun activity page.
I used the full set of three workbooks this summer with my son so he could review everything he learned in Kindergarten. He really likes the Star Wars theme and will happily do his pages everyday in this one even though he doesn't like to do workbooks. Of course he got to earn time on the PlayStation by doing his pages, so that probably helped too. Each letter had a two page spread to work on handwriting and then an activity such as a maze or coloring by letter. Most of the reading in the book was too complicated for a kindergarten age student, but that is to be expected as many of them are not really reading yet anyway. We used the preschool books last year and we will most likely use the 1st grade books to review next summer as well.
This is my first book in the Star Wars Workbook series but I'm thrilled. Can't wait to buy more. There are lots of pages and loads of character pictures and many different activities to keep your young learner engaged and stay on task. They give you lots of areas to continue writing your letters which is great. I couldn't be happier!
WOW! This book is so awesome. I've been working with my four year old at home on writing and he has not wanted to do his "homework" at all. This book really has barely anything to do with Star Wars besides a picture on each page but yet he loves it! I save this for the end of his lesson and it motivates him to work hard in order to get to do his Star Wars book. Such a simple concept but man does it excite him!
My 5 year old loves this book! He is starting kindergarten in the fall and I wanted him to have a leg up on his ABCs. He loves playing the games, and the way the tracing is set up, he is able to work very successfully at writing his letters. He really loved the games that showed up every couple of letters.
