I got this book for my science-mad nine year-old because he has a great imagination (and loves the Basher science books!) but struggles in writing. He was a little resistant to the topic at first, but soon began to enjoy the funny Basher take on creative writing basics, and was telling me about the difference between protagonists and antagonists. Hopefully learning about the structure of writing from Basher's zany perspective will help open up a difficult subject for him.
We borrowed a couple of this series (rocks and chemistry) from a friend of ours. I have an 8 yr old son who hates to read. We tried these books to see if they peeked his interest and they did. We ended up buying every book. The creative writing book I bought for his teacher and he loves it so much he chooses it for his silent reading in class. The pictures are fun and it is simple to read. Each page is about a different concept so it's short and sweet and the kids get it.
Only useful for helping beginning writers with basic concepts and structure - but is perfect for a young writer. The explanations are concise and easy to understand - and presented in a fun way. For a more experienced writer it won't be all that useful.
My daughter loves this and all of her other Basher books. They are so well written and have very engaging illustrations to go along with the topics.
Nice introduction and personification of topics for young readers. Not a writing textbook, but a good reference of writing techniques and terminology.
I think this book will really help me. I have creative writing assignments for school and I love to write stories on my own. It has helpful hints and is very interesting to read.
We love using the Basher Books. They all have great information in them. We almost have the whole series now. We will be buying the rest soon.
Didn't realize this is only half the length of most Basher books (64 pages instead of 128). But yet its priced the same...
