Excellent book!! I bought it for my daughter in first grade. it's building her writing skills step-by-step. I love it.
This is exactly what I needed. I am homeschooling my 9 year old and I have no idea how to teach writing. He absolutely hates to write so anything like "just sit down and write for a certain amount of time!" is not going to work. This workbook gives step by step instructions so for instance one day we'll be writing a list of descriptive words from an event my child remembers, and then the next day we organize them into categories, then start writing a paragraph. Very clear instructions, easy for me to figure out how to tell him to expand on his answers and it's clear enough that he can't weasel out of ending up with a good solid paragraph.
This is a great product to use as a supplement to public school or we used this when we decided to home school our daughter. When she did go back to public school the next year she was on the same level and in some place higher than other kids within the grade level.
I homeschool my 7th grade daughter and just bought this for her to have to help her with her creative writing, it is great! I love the ideas in this book, and the fact that the stories that are in there are boring for my daughter so it keeps her attention.
This is a fantastic workbook that has helped my child a great deal. It has exercises in the early portions of the book that lay out the writing process in a way that is easy to understand. It discusses "prewriting" or laying out the concepts that you want to discuss, adding details, organizing thoughts, writing sentences, and finally writing entire narratives. This book lays out each of the steps in a straightforward manner that has helped my child's writing immensely. I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to help their young child become a better writer.
These are great workbooks! I use them as review with my kids over the summer to keep their minds fresh in the skills they practiced all year. I have also used them throughout the school year for extra practice in particular skills in which my kids may be struggling.
This workbook really helped my 6 year old son improve his writing skills. He is an advanced student but had trouble putting together thoughts to make a cohesive paragraph. Now he free style writes wonderfully in the second grade. Thank you!
I use all of the Spectrum materials as support material for my grandson's school work, and have found them to be the best I have used for that purpose, money well spent. These books come with tear-out sheets that can easily be scanned for doing work on the computer. We are using this book as a companion to Glencoe Writer's Choice: Grammar and Composition
