This is a cute book that I picked up for my son to commemorate a trip to California that we took together but I really wish it had more words. The pictures are cute but there isn't much substance to this one.
Very enjoyable book! True, there are few words; however, that leaves it open to let the children tell you what they see or play hide and seek. We live in CA and have seen all these places, so we can talk about things we did on the trips. "Few words" seems like a rather vapid complaint - it's a children's book, let their imagination run. Only gripe, no one calls it Southern Coast - it's SoCal. Second edition fix? Anyhow, highly recommended for Californians or welcome travelers.
Bought this for our family trip to California where we took the train from LA to SF. Cute pictures and it actually followed along with most of the places we visited, so it was good prep for new words/objects/scenery that hopefully my 18 month old will retain. Really simple words. Not much to it. We made up our own stories for each picture, but even then, there wasn't a whole lot going on
The book is gorgeous. The paper quality is lovely and the artwork is wonderful. Problem though? There are like 9 pages in it and 2 of them are printed upside down.... My toddler loves the book and is so confused by the fact that we have to turn the book over to read about what happens when the train goes into San Francisco - honestly, it was a huge disappointment.
We love this book. It is perfect for both our 3 year old and 21 month old girls ( who are both HIGHLY verbal). The lovely pictures and imaginative scenery allows them to really get into the story and make up their own ideas...skills that are essential for good readers. Ps: I am a high school English teacher. There is quite a bit going on in this book. I want one for all the states!
We travel to many of these places so I love getting to review them with my toddler. Cute illustrations. Very basic, but perfect for my 15 month old.
Adorable little book! It is just words on a page and not an actual story but I make up my own each time. Little boys who like trains will love this!
The illustration is great!! The writing/ storyline.. not so much.
