As a non-swimmer who lives by the beach, I read eagerly to the ending of this book for some secret that might change me, too, into an avid deep sea diver. Sure, I can swim. I can go in the water. I just don't like to. I really felt for this (adorably drawn) crocodile. But lo and behold! No wonder the croc doesn't like the water! He's a dragon! He's not supposed to swim, he's born to fly! I love this ending. Don't question yourself: you're a magical creature with powers all your own.I knew there was a reason I didn't like the water.
Great book for my three-year-old son. He immediately asked us to read it again. He got a big kick out of predicting the twist in the story and was so proud of himself when he was proven right.I'm certain this book will be read several times over before we return it to the library.
Love this book! A great book full of hilarious pictures, great writing, and allows you to make a bunch of wild noises. I bought this for my two year old. I think I'm putting it on my bookshelf instead!
A little crocodile desperately wants to fit in with his brothers and sisters who love the water. He watches them and wishes he could enjoy swimming as much as they do. He saves his money to buy a swim ring, though he rather climb trees. He makes several attempts to get in the water. When he almost drowns, he begins to feel a sneeze coming on. As the tickle in his nose grows, his sneeze comes out as fire. Soon they all understand he is a dragon. This works out fine as he flies through the sky with his family of crocodiles riding on his back. The author/illustrator shows the sadness and triumph of her little dragon as he worries and celebrates over finding his real self perfectly. The family is together and happy as the little dragon share his gifts with them.shellibrary.wordpress.com
This story is adorable! My kids (4 and 3) think it is hilarious, and they laugh out loud when we read it. We first read it at the library and liked it so much I bought it for them for Christmas. However, if you are looking for a book to help assuage water fears, this is the wrong book.
My 4 year olds favorite book. She/We know it by heart!
This is a very sweet story about a little crocodile who didn't like water. Although he longs to play with his brothers and sisters, he didn't like swim club or jumping off the diving board. In fact, what he really enjoyed was climbing trees.... One day, the little crocodile discovers why he doesn't like swimming and realises he has other gifts to offer. This is a lovely story, with a great message for any children who may not enjoy the same activities as their friends - it is fine to be different. The illustrations are simply wonderful - we especially enjoyed hte poor little crocodile standing, tentatively, on the diving board. A wonderful read for children aged 2 - 4.
