I purchased this book for our daughter when she was about 6 months old but she wasn't at all interested in it, unlike 95% of our other purchases. Then at about 12 months she picked it out for me to read it to her, and it has increasingly become a favorite. I think the reason she didn't like it earlier on was, ironically, the same reason I readily purchased it - the beautiful watercolor illustrations. While they are very beautiful, they are somewhat muted resulting in a look that blurs all of the detail together. Of course, this is just a guess. At any rate, she now very much enjoys this book, and anticipates the action, such as Peter sneezing, or the "scr-r-ritch, scratch" of a hoe. Board books with a storyline are somewhat more difficult to find than the counting, color, alphabet, opposites, etc. kind, and my daughter has always definitely enjoyed stories. Additionally, this book teaches us there are repercussions for our actions, but in a tone that is mild and appropriate for young toddlers. If this is what you're looking for, and you're not looking for storybooks for a younger baby, this would be an excellent choice.

My 4 year old has been obsessed with this book since I bought it and we have read it every night before bed. The story is about a naughty bunny named Peter Rabbit, whose mother tells him and his sisters to stay away from Mr. McGregor's garden, but of course he doesn't listen. He goes right to the garden when his mother goes out and feasts on lots of the farmer's vegetables, only to get chased by Mr. McGregor who nearly catches him several times, but he manages to escape and make it home at last. His sisters are rewarded with berries, bread, and milk for being good and listening to their mother, but Peter is sent to bed with only tea. I've discussed the message with my daughter several times and drove home the point that when your parents warn you not to do something, they are trying to protect you and also discussed the consequences of not listening like Peter. The illustrations are classic and beautiful and I love the board book format so the book doesn't get destroyed after so many repeated readings. Before buying it, I read lots of reviews in which others complained that it is not the original text, but a SUMMARIZED version, which is true, but for us, the message of the book is still there. I've even made stick puppets of the characters and she enjoys acting out the story with them. Very cute book!

The larger pictures are nice, but this edition omits much of the text. Problem is, my two-year-old had already memorized the text from traditional edition and now wants to know where the other words are! We end up reading both books side by side.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter was an excellent book. I would recommend it to people of all ages even though it was s targeted towards younger children. The book was about four little rabbits that all wanted to go down the lane or into the fields. The only place that they were not allowed to go was Mr. McGregor's garden. Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail were good little bunnies and went down the lane to the field. But Peter was very mischievous. He went to Mr. McGregor's garden!! When he got into the garden he saw the best sight of his life. There was food galore! He started to eat and eat and eat. He couldn't stop. Then Mr. McGregor found him and chased him through the garden! Peter had many obstacles that stood in his way! Did he make it out safe? Read the book and you will find out.

My grandson and his wife were very pleased to receive it along with the gift of the Cereal bowl and Mug. The bowl and mug had been in our family for a couple of generations and couldn't have been put to a better use. Made an excellent gift. Also, the Waterford Public Library was very appreciative of your gift of the 2nd book which I ordered (by error) and that you afforded me a credit on my purchase. Thank you Don.

I can only ever give The Tale of Peter Rabbit books a 5 star rating. I grew up with the story, my kids grew up with the story and now my grandchildren are as well. For smaller children, board books are great.

I love all the Peter Rabbit books, so this board book for the very little ones is great. I give as a gift with a stuffed Peter Rabbit so they can tough an feel while being read to also. Get the little ones interested in books as young as possible to start the love to read habit!

I bought this for our 15-month-old granddaughter to LOVES books. This one held her attention and she spent a lot of time, sitting on the floor with the book in her lap, carefully examining every page. As a board book (she still rips regular pages) it is obviously an abbreviated version of the story, which suits the short attention span of a toddler. This was a hit for Christmas.
