I don't know what it was, but when my son received these books in the mail, he was suddenly reading better than he ever had before. Maybe it finally clicked for him that reading is important. Maybe it has something to do with our cat at home. Or maybe it was the vibrant colors and engaging storyline. Whatever it was, it worked, and I have a reader on my hands.
I purchased this set at the request of my students. I read one Pete the Cat book to them - MONTHS ago - and they asked me time and time again to read more Pete the Cat books until I FINALLY gave in and did it. I have no regrets with this purchase! What makes these books so amazing is their versatility. Toddlers and preschoolers will love the illustrations and the short length of the books make them a quick read, which is great for the youngers children with short attention spans! Beginning readers (4K-2nd) will find these the perfect books to practice their reading skills and more experienced readers (1st-3rd) will love the content and illustrations. The books are simple and repetitive, yet interesting and engaging! This makes them perfect for all beginning readers!
Bought these for my beginning reader and he absolutely loves them. They are easy to read, the stories are simple to follow, and there is always a positive message at the end. Perfect to spark the interest of 4-6 year olds who are just starting to read. Plus the deal was too good to pass up - buying in a bundle saves a lot of money and gives my kiddos more options (rather than just re-reading 1 single book over and over). Definite keepers, and will be passing these along to younger family members as we move on to harder books.
My son has a Pete the Cat Easter Book that we had been reading him well into the end of summer and were getting a little tired of (!) when we found this set on . My son was thrilled! He is 2 years and 3 months, and these books are perfect for him. The language is very simple and he has not trouble following along, and has even started reciting some of the simpler passages himself. The set comes in a neat little box that he enjoys carrying around, and removing and replacing the books. There is a little extra space in the box so we have added two additional Pete that Cat books which fit really nicely. All in all a good set at a good price, and they are my son's favorite.
Excellent set for an-almost reader. My 4-year old is really into "reading" but isn't ready to read on his own. These books are great for the transition. I read it to him and after a few times through he has started to sight-read certain words that are repetitive (like mom, Pete, etc.). He enjoys the stories, although they're pretty basic for mom/dad to read over and over, but that's the best way to get them reading on their own!
My 6 year old has just finished Kindergarden and this book is something she can grow into. She loves the silly storyline and illustrations. She can read more than 70% of the words because she knows all of her high frequency words. I think this is a true level one reader, not too easy and not too hard, maybe 2 sentences on each page.
My son loved it, and I'm quite fond of Pete's "joie de vivre" that he brings to everyday events. While most people seem upset by life's little problems, Pete appears to revel in their novelty and see the good in all situations. It's a good lesson for my son, and a good lesson for the rest of us, too.But it would be awesome if just once he clawed somebody's face off.
Cute stories about Pete, but not quite on the same level as the first books like "White Shoes". The stories feel a little more like the author was churning them out to me. But I'm an adult (most of the time), and these books are for kids. My nearly 3 year old loves them. The art is fun and bright. The sentences are simple and easy for a small child to remember. A great price for a set of books.
