I HAD to give this book a 5 star rating. My daughter is in 2nd grade and hates to read. I feel as though I have discouraged her to read because it takes enforcement, bribery and even punishement just to get her to read a little every day. Worse yet, she showed no interest in chapter books. Well, when I received this book 3 days after I order it (thank you ) we jump right into reading it. (one chapter a day) I loved the way the end of the chapter left my daughter in suspense. I caught her SNEAKING to read the next chapter just to find out what happens next. This is from a child who hates to read. I told her she had to wait until tomorrow which made her more eager the next day to pick up the book. I have purchased a few other level 2 readers like this and hope it gives her the same eagerness when we start to read them too. Oh, and the story is adorable. I recommend this book totally.
I bought this book for my grandson who has just completed the first gade. I think the book is funny. The vocabulary is easy enough and the illustrations are excellent. Even without them, a beginning reader can picture everything. It contains a strong appeal to the senses, and the situations are easy for a second gader to relate to. I highly recommend this book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone! It is a lovely, enchanting, and funny tale, and the pictures complement the story beautifully. I read it to my son recently, and we both loved it. He listened the entire time and wanted to hear it again! It has quickly become one of his favorites! We also have Katharine Kenah's book The Dream Shop (illustrated by Peter Catalannotto), which is a gorgeous picture book. I recommend her books to everyone!
This is a cute story for children entering or in 2nd grade. Most children can read the story themself and the pictures are bright and cute.My son really enjoyed it.
This book is an exciting mix of a second grader's love for a classroom pet (hamster) and suspense of a detective story. A perfect read to familiarize your child to second grade life, this book has adventures and lessons on every page . First peek inside what's in a 2nd grader's classroom and then take a field trip with the class to the Science Museum! When the breathtaking accident finally happens(the hemster got lost in the museum), the young readers will learn how to use clues to solve the problem and save the day with Sam, the trouble-maker-turned-hero who has THE BEST SEAT IN SECOND GRADE!
While I don't have extensive knowledge on this book as it was a gift. However, I did notice how well put together it was. The binding seemed strudy. The cover art was cute. My daughter saw this gift before we gave it and actually wanted it just by looking at the cover so that has to say something right? My niece I gave the book to seemed thrilled very with it. I do know that the I Can Read books are very good books and we have loved all of the ones we have purchase.
My six year old is in the last months of her first grade class and is already reading at a second grade level. What better way to continue that and furthering her reading during summer? This book is great and she loves it! Makes her get excited for second grade!
Bought this book for my daughters second grade class. She teaches in an impoverished area and books are few and far between. So I bought some. There is nothing more important that learning to read and our school systems seem to no longer encourage reading. Good book.
