It was William Howard Taft who served as chief justice of the Supreme Court, Warren G. Harding who was president during the Teapot Dome Scandal, and Ulysses S. Grant who grew up with the nickname 'Useless'. All these facts, and more, are found in this Presidents: Fandex Family Field Guide. This is a beautiful set and well-worth the 9.95 it sells for. Each card has a beautiful die-cut portrait. The dates of the presidency are included as well as the Vice President's name and the First Lady's name. Every card has a surprisingly thorough bio. Of course, due to space constraints, not everything is listed here. However, many facts are included and those facts definitely whet one's appetite for more information.Did you know that Franklin Pierce's classmate was Nathaniel Hawthorne? Or, that Herbert Hoover emerged from retirement in 1946 to distribute food supplies to the poor? I didn't know these facts and I didn't know that Rutherford B Hayes undertook the reform of the appalling conditions of mental hospitals (while governor). In addition to the President cards, there are also cards that give a bit of data on each Vice President. So, in just a second or so, I can find out that Garret A Hobart (VP to McKinley) was a New Jersey lawyer and banker, that he was a 12-year member of the Republican National Committee, and that he died in office. There is also a clear, but small, portrait next to each VP synopsis. All in all, this is a great set and fun to read. It's very high quality and, although geared to children, is interesting and informative for adults, as well.
I bought this for my grandchildren but already had one, myself, for at least ten years. I could not live without this reference. As an avid "Jeopardy" watcher with a lifelong interest in American History, I use this"Fandex" all the time. It is displayed very well and each president's information is easily accessible. It has the pertinent details as well as the highlights of each man's term in office. A must for students, it makes an easy way to memorize the chronological order of the presidents' terms. I whole heartily recommend this product as well as the other "Fandex" products that sells.
We love Fandex in this household. We homeschool and these are an easy way to teach our son. They also travel well. We take them where ever we go. Great for learning the Presidents. I also like the pictures.
Not much information in this non-book (actually a bunch of flash cards). I thought maybe my kid would like it, but couldn't get him to look at it more than twice. Then the next thing I knew, the whole "binding" had broken apart, and we had "President"cards all over the place. What a mess!
I wanted an educational set to help my children know more about our Presidents. Instead I got a leftist propaganda with clear leftist agenda. Some clear ones:Ford - "proceeded cautiously in the mistaken belief that limiting government spending here and making tax cuts there would suffice"Carter - "Delicious vindication... has become the most productive of our living presidents..."Regan - "the Teflon President"Clinton - "sinkholes of sexual allegation that threatened to swallow him"I will pass the long winded full of disdain chapter on Bush Senior. All in all, avoid if you want to have even a balanced view of history. This is not it.
My kids find the Fandex format easy to use, and the information on them accessible. We have several, and with the elections going on this past year they used this one the most.I like the fact that each president has a photo, as well as pertinent info: Date of birth and death, Number; Party represented; Vice President; First Lady's name. As well, there is a bio and some history for each one, including events leading up to and what happened while he was in office. The only quibble I have about these decks is that sometimes when they're completely fanned out, the edges of the illustrations get caught up in each other, making it hard to close them properly. But other than that, they're cute, informative, and a nice format for kids.
This "book" on U.S. Presidents IS more like fancy flash cards than a real book. There are lots of fun facts that just may help you on a trivia night. You get the name of the President's First Lady, Vice President, political party, platform, achievements, scandals and a really nice picture of his face at the top of each page. You get what number President he was and what years he served. I bought this for my kids and would definitely buy it for a friend's kids. It is better than any flash card I could make.
Fandex has made a great way to know the Presidents of The United States. In cut out flash cards there are the Presidents in order from George Washington to Barack Obama with brief history of each President. This is a fun way to play trivia and quiz your friends on who the President is by his picture, then you can ask more questions based on the information in the back of each card. Not only for trivia fans, but also great in a social studies classroom. This is a great way to learn the Presidents and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
