After watching an in-depth documentary about the Sistine Chapel, finding this coloring book was a real inspiration. Now I'll be able to color just like Michaelangelo, but without the Pope looking over my shoulder!This is stress-relief with a higher calling! Love it!
My husband exclaimed that he might actually begin coloring if he had a coloring book like this. He is getting it for his birthday.In the back pages is has color pictures of the line drawings that are about the size of a 4x6 print.
So far I have to say that the majority of the coloring books we have purchased from Dover publishing have been wonderful. This one is no different. If you are an adult who likes to relax with crayons and coloring books then this is one book you should add. While it is religious themed in nature, you need not be religious to be able to enjoy working on this book. A great way to climb inside the mind of one of the great art Masters in human history. I would suggest however, like with most of the Dover collection of coloring books, you use quality colored pencils and not crayons. Pastel's work well in some places as well.
Some what crude renderings and thin paper not sure if you'll like it more or less if you're a Michaelangelo fan because of the way the 'rendering' of his work looks here. having seen some of his real work- coloring in this quality of reproduction dampened some of the fun of it for me- I couldn't help comparing one to the other as I colored; as I said- crude renderings of the masters work- while many other coloring books are quite detailed.
The selection is awesome. It is inspirational! Now I can color the michaelangelo masterpieces.
These pictures are beautiful!! I love finding the pictures on the internet and coloring them the same way. I copy the pages and leave the book blank, so I can color them as many times as I want to. I wish I was an artist but I satisfy my artistic needs by coloring the pages. Very fun hobby for me. And these are coloring pages of some of the most famous paintings in the world.
I love art, and I'm not a prude. Naked art is fine for me. I don't even mind my children seeing it. Just be forewarned, it's not just here and there; it's most of the book. I ordered this for a class of 4-8 year olds in a Christian homeschool cooperative art class. As I was looking through, I was a little shocked at ALL the nudity. Lots of male anatomy, even when it seems really unnecessary. Looking through the book with the other moms in the co-op, we have decided that while we don't mind our children seeing the art, we feel it will be disruptive in a class setting with the maturity level of the children involved. Therefor we are going to only offer the few non-nude pieces for coloring during class time.
