My son has shown a lot of interest in "lift-the-flap" books and trucks lately, so I figured this would be a winner. Unfortunately, not so much.First of all, when the book arrived, one of the tabs (one on the ambulance) was already torn, and upon our first time reading it another one tore. This was not due to my son being rough-- *I* was the one opening the tabs-- but due to poor construction, as the "hinge" of the flap was too close to the middle fold of the page. This is an automatic star deduction right there-- I purchase board books for their durability, and this one is not up to snuff. On a more subjective note, I did not find the book's illustrations and text to be that appealing. I know that's personal preference, but rather than looking simple and classic, this book just looked dated and worn to me. Combined with the fact that it arrived damaged, it ended up looking a lot more like a garage-sale find than a brand-new purchase. There are a few pros, however: There is a good assortment of trucks pictured-- my son particularly liked the Mail truck-- and there is some good information about each one. Again, not all the text is well written, but that's my opinion.Overall I wouldn't recommend this one (and definitely not for children under two).**UPDATE** 8/13/14We still have this book, and while I have to reiterate that the tabs are not particularly sturdy (two have been torn off completely, and several more have been partially ripped) my son really really loves this book. He flips through it over and over again, and always asks us to read it to him. I'm still giving it three stars for lack of sturdiness (it doesn't hold up to parents opening the flaps, let alone toddlers), but my son definitely finds it very enjoyable.
Our twin girls (age 3) have lately been obsessed with cars, trucks and trains and are big fans of the Playtown books. But this book is rather dull and pedestrian compared to Playtown, where cats or snakes might lurk behind every flap. There's no sense of whimsy in the illustrations, everything is pretty mundane. Lift the flap on a bulldozer and you see... a tool box. Accurate, but dull. Its companion book, Lift the Flap-On the Go, is a bit more interesting but this one, not so much. There's better books out there.
Got this for my truck loving 2 year old.. Great pictures and selection of all of the vehicles he loves. Only three stars since he was able to rip the tabs immediately by simply lifting them. Wish they would make he same book without the flaps, but he still loves it even though it is tore up!
I bought this for my grandson when he was 18 months old and it became one of his favorite books! Each page is colorful and has several "peek-in" flaps on every one. The cardboard is durable and the flaps remain crisp and usable despite the loving use of tiny hands.
Perfect book for a toddler or preschool boy. Clear appealing pictures. Durable flaps. We have a number of Priddy books. They are my grandson's favorites. Smaller than some of the others, so good for in the car or traveling.
My 2-year old son loves this book. Each truck has a few flaps to open and learn about what the truck does. And the best part about the book is that it tells us the name of each driver and what they do with the truck. So, they aren't just generic trucks, but machines with a variety of functions, and each truck takes a worker to get the job done. My 4-year old daughter enjoys it too.
My 18 month old LOVES this book. We haven't had a problem with the tabs tearing off, although you can definitely tell which flaps he opens the most--the edges of the flaps get a little worn but are still totally usable. I'm now buying this for a friend, her son really likes it and this is one book my son won't share lol
My 18 month son is very into cars, trains, planes, etc. He loves all the pictures of trucks and the flaps. I bought it as a Christmas gift for him, but he was there when I opened the box. He immediately grabbed it and started looking through it saying "wow!"
