I got this for my 16-year-old son for Christmas, and he loves it. It was the present he kept going back to look at while he was waiting for his turn to open another one. For an older user like him, it's pretty quick and simple to follow the directions, but he's also gone beyond what's in the book to make his own creations. The parts aren't going to last long if they are played with hard, but they work great with gentle use.
We ordered this twice, from sellers (not directly). Both times, from two different sellers, it was shipped in a bag and arrived crushed. This is why we will only order directly from from now on!! Grrrr.That being said, my 9 year old enjoyed the kit and has been using it for the past week, making robots from recycling materials. I like that she can find most of what she needs easily from our recycling bin, and she is able to follow the directions on her own, although we have had fun doing the projects with her as well.
I got this book from my nephew for Christmas because he loves to make things. This book is for older children that can follow difficult directions and be able to build complicated things. What I love is the book comes with some of the pieces that you will need for a robot already, so all you have to do is find other household items to finish your robot. A really great book. I would recommend it.
There was more to this book/kit than expected. Even though it says 10 robots projects, there are so many other robots you can build by adding your own personal touches. The book/kit includes some great designs and pre-printed materials that made our first robot easy to construct. This kit is a great introduction to robot building for kids. The book also includes some pages about Robots In Our World, which include descriptions and categories of a variety of robots. All in all, this book/kit seems to be great educational and fun learning experience!
This is a great gift for kiddos who like to build with things you find around the house. There are step-by-step directions and supplies for some projects, and also some ideas for making up projects of your own. This was given to my five year old as a Christmas gift, and he liked it so well I got one for his friend's 5th birthday. It is simple enough for 5 year olds, but can become more complex to fit any age (even grown-ups who like to build).
I ended up purchasing two of these. I bought one and gave it to our 10 year old grandson. He and I made three of the robots in the book. The instructions are easy to follow and the projects are simple and don't require a lot of time so it's quick gratification. Before he came for the visit, the book includes a list of materials you will need for each project. I purchased all of the glue, glue dots, scissors, etc in advance. Then he and I built a robot toolkit for him to use with the book. He loved it and it provided us with entertainment for the weekend!
My 8 year old son LOVED this gift with the expectation that it is simple project book. A year ago he would have been dismayed bc he was only interested in building a likeness of product to Iron Man or a Halo suite to size. More practical now, he appreciates the activities for what they are and enjoyed it the second he got it.
Bought this as a gift for my nephew. He's 9. He loves Robots. He loves figuring out how things work. Based on the Instagram videos I've already seen of his recycled robot creations, this is likely a jumping off point for his endless creativity. He's continually scouring the house for stuff to make into new and better robots. The little motors that come with this book actually work. He's a happy little inventor. My sister is thrilled he's found an activity that will keep him entertained and that she's not the one doing all the work. I have a five-year-old and intend to tuck away another copy of the book/kit for when he gets just a little bit older.
