I LOVE the Mo Willems Pigeon Books (well, ALL of Mo Willems' books are great, including the Elephant and Piggie books too!). And this is a great set of the first three books (I think there are currently 5 full-length Pigeon books, 2 shorter books, and an Activity Book). However, a word of caution: The books in this set are 2/3rds the size of the original hardcover Pigeon books. These books are around 6x6 while the originals are 9x9. Just letting you know. If this doesn't matter to you, enjoy!
I bought this boxed set because my kids have a couple of other Mo Willems books and love them. These three pigeon books are great books--but useless for aspiring readers like my boys. To condense the books into a smaller sized package, they didn't just reduce the font (which, while not ideal, would have been OK)--they turned several pages of each book into smaller "thumbnails" to squeeze them on a single page. Now I'm going to have to invest in the full-size versions of each. I think this should have been spelled out more explicitly in 's description of the product.
I bought these as a starter collection as part of a baby gift, and didn't realize that the books inside the slipcase are paperback and smaller than the regular pigeon books.
Mo Williams is a great author, but these are not board books with hard cardboard pages. They are small hardcover books with paper pages.
Children love Mo Willems's sense of humor. They "get it". This particular set made it affordable for me to read these books to my students. The only drawback is the fact that they are in miniature so it is a bit more challenging to read to a group of students. This boxed set is perfect for an individual child to read independently. You can't go wrong with a Mo Willems book!
If you aren't familiar with Mo Willems' work for young children, you are in store for a treat! The Pigeon is beloved by kids from preschool up through 2nd or 3rd grade (and up!). Elephant and Piggie are also enjoyed by that age group. In honor of the Pigeon's 10th birthday, this special edition has been released. The cute bus makes a sturdy box for three favorites:*Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus*Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!*The Pigeon Finds a Hot DogThe books are sturdy hardcover, and a fun size (about 6 x 6).This would be a GREAT new baby or 1st birthday gift to help build a child's home library, or for any birthday up through 6 or 7.
It's the ten year anniversary of The Pigeon by Mo Willems and my question is, where have I been for the past ten years? How is it possible I hadn't heard of this before? It was love at first read for me and my three year old Paige when we read all three of the It's a Busload of Pigeon Books! The age range says 3 - 5 and while I agree with the starting age of 3, I think there should be no ending age because everyone can enjoy these books. What had my laughing was how much the Pigeon reminded me of my kids and probably most everyone's out there. It Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, the pigeon makes all the same classic excuses my kids make when they are trying to stay up past their bedtime. Paige was laughing and said "that's what I say too mama." Um, yea I know! The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog was super cute too and teaches a little something about sharing and problem solving.Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus was Paige's favorite because she thought it was just plain silly that a Pigeon would even want to drive a bus. It's a Busload of Pigeon Books is a super cute collection of three classic Pigeon books in a smaller size perfect for fans who have been around for years or new fans like me! I love the illustrations and the simplicity of the stories that have witty humor young and old can enjoy.
These are wonderful children's books! I'm a nanny and Mo Willems is by far my favorite children's author. These are books that I'm happy to read again and again (and again as the case may be).Kids from two to seven enjoy these stories. They love being in charge and telling the pigeon "No" he can't stay up late and "No" he can't the drive the bus. The story lines are easy to follow and entertaining for adults, too.The box set is nice because it keeps the books together. The smaller size of the books makes it easier for little fingers to hold. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone with kids seven and under.
