I bought this thinking it would be a good book for making the first child feel special once there was a second child. While I love God gave us you, this story is a bit confusing mathwise as it is God gave us two yet they end up having twins so it is really God gave us three. Unless you know you are having twins don't bother. Too confusing for the age group it is intended for. For a good book on the same theme with less confusion try "All my favorites." There are three bears in that one but it makes sense.
Our son has "God Gave Us You" and enjoys the book (as do we) so when we learned we were expecting a second child, we thought this would be a great preparation book since it is an extension of the characters in the book we already have. What we weren't expecting is the outcome of Mama Bear's second pregnancy: twins! So, as "Little Cub" says, the book is really about "God Gave Us Three". The story leading up to the finale is good, we just wish we had known that it was going to discuss twins as now we have to explain each time that we are only having one baby NOT two.
I bought this book because we had been given "God Gave Us You" when our first son was born. I imagined that the second book would be very similar and sweet. Unfortunately, I was very, very disappointed. Our son is now 3 and is eagerly anticipating the birth of our second son. He has NO negative feelings about this baby and is nothing but elated about the thought of having a baby brother to help take care of and love. This book however, if read the way it is written does a great job of instilling quite a few negative thoughts, perceptions, and ideas about having a baby to an older sibling, where none may have been before! Some quotes from the books, "Little cub asks, 'Mama, if the baby cries too much, can we send it back?'", and "Maybe having a baby won't be ALL bad.". Really? I am so discourqged by this book. I ended up whiting out the text on several pages and writing in my own words. So sad. Do NOT buy this if you are looking for something similar to the first. Here are a few really great books on being a big brother: I'm a Big Brother! by Ronne Randall and Kristina Stephenson and My Big Brother by Valorie Fisher
This is a sweet little book and definitely one that can be helpful in explaining to a child that a new sibling is on the way. Unfortunately, the title and the descriptions are a bit misleading. This book is about the arrival of twins and might lead to some confusion with your kids when the little bear ends up with twin siblings in the end. So make sure you know this is the book you need when you are considering something to help your child understand that your family will soon be growing. It loses a couple of stars because the publisher needs to better explain what the book is about in the description.
Yes, we love Jesus, but this book is just awful to read. I have seen others in this series which I'm also not a fan. So, it comes down to writing preference, if you like others in the series, you will probably like it. If you don't, steer clear. On the plus side, my son likes the pictures... so we make up our own words as he is a pre-reader...
I saw this at a baby shower and had to have it! The illustrations are wonderful, and the book combines a little religion and a wonderful way for parents to explain the blessing of a second (or third...) sibling. We have enjoyed this book very much.
