As other reviewers have said, the spin the bottle game is a bit weird for a 6 year olds birthday party, but aside from that, it's another classic Berenstain Bears book. Plus, it's natural that Sister only wanted to give Brother a kiss, because as kids that young, giving a siblings a kiss on the cheek is what you are familiar with, not insestual. Anyway, we had a BB themed party for our son's 3rd birthday and I purchased this book as a momento for guests to sign. We also read it to the kids and they all loved it!

My daughter always loved biscuit books, but now as she is getting older, her new favorite is Bernstein bear books. Which makes me happy, these were a favorite of mine when i was a child also so I really enjoy our special time reading these books together. Right now "Too much junk food" is her favorite one. Can't go wrong with these books.

30 years ago my Mom read my brother and I these same books. My Mother saved our collection of 30 or so for the past 30 years. These books are still relevant... I'm reviewing this one because my daughter pointed it out to me on the back of the other BB books we had and of course this was the only one we didn't have(I remember it as a kid, but must have lost it) and had to order it off of . She needs this read to her Every night before bed. People, please understand this book was written a very long time ago and times have changed(you know, we tend not to play spin-the-bottle at kids birthdays anymore), so please do not go around bashing it as not age appropriate. If you do not think these books are appropriate for your children, then simply do not read them. On the other hand, my children love hearing me explain how times have changed since Daddy was their age(under 6) and what is now done today instead. Books like these are both fun for the Parents and Children. There are numerous "big" words that are used in the BB books that grab my children's attention and they are curious to know what they mean...the best is when they actually figure out a way to use them in their vocabulary and they are sooo proud of themselves when they do so. I have no doubt my children will be reading BB books to their kiddies in 30 years as well.

We have at least 15 Berenstain Bears books, and this is one of our 5 year old son's favorites. It shows how much fun birthday parties can be, but also that we can get too carried away by them. There is one part where the cubs play "spin the bottle" which does seem odd, but Sister only ends up kissing Brother on the cheek...this part doesn't seem to be a problem for our son.

Berenstain Bears books always have good stories. They are appropriate for First Graders as far as difficulty. Papa, Brother, and Sister Bear are in the woods cutting down a tree. A discussion of tree rings leads to the planning of Sister's birthday party. Of course, the Bears overdo it with decorations and the entertainment. Sister Bear doesn't enjoy herself at the party. As with all Berenstain Bears books, there is a lesson to be learned in the end. There are also two pages of birthday stickers with the Bear family preparing for the party included in the book. My son and I enjoyed reading it together. I would recommend it!

A lesson of modesty which is very well described! Children and parents will learn that big, sensational birthday party does not necessarily ends up with happiness!

One of my daughter's favorite Berensteiin Bear's book. In this episode, we find the Bears preparing for Sister Bear's birthday party. Mamma Bear is quite concerned that the party will be too ostentatious--but not Pappa bear. The party starts and doesn't go quite as Sister Bear expects and the kids get a good lesson in expectations and politeness at your own party. Good subject matter and as always great lessons for your kids.

This is our favorite Berenstain Bears book, a must for every child who has ever "wanted it all" for their special day. Sister turns six, and what starts out as a simple birthday celebration plan becomes an elaborate festival complete with too many goodies, ponies and merry-go-round, thanks to Papa. This is a bit much for Sister, who has only just turned six, after all! Parent everywhere will smile at the birthday meltdown and subsequent scenes, and children of all ages will relate to sister's ups and downs on her big day.
