I like this book because it deals with something that kids will understand. his parents leave for a party so the kid bear has a party of his own. every guest brought popcorn and he decices to fix it all and it fills up the house with popcorn. They eat all the popcorn and clean the house so his perents never know what happened. his parents came home and they brought him some popcorn. This is a great story for kids around the halloween time
I haven't even seen the book for twenty years or more, but this morning I woke up with the idea that Popcorn, by Frank Asch, would be perfect for trick-or-treaters this Halloween. Popcorn, with all of its costumed bears and the house that fills with popcorn, was my favorite book for years. You can ask my mother. I am so sorry to hear that it is out of print.
This is a cute story about a young bear named Sam who is left alone in the house on Halloween when his parents go out to a party.Sam decides to throw a party of his own, and he dresses up in a costume and invites all of his bear friends over. Each friend has individually come up with the idea to bring a package of popcorn, and after having some fun at the party, someone gets the idea to pop all of the popcorn together in a big black kettle.The popcorn soon fills the house, and the young bears spend the rest of the night eating popcorn in order to fix the problem. After Sam cleans up, his parents return home with a gift for him-popcorn.I liked this story a lot when I was a boy; it's fun to see the different costumes of the young bears and the different varieties of popcorn they bring (a bear dressed like a ghost has "spooky tooth" popcorn). The idea of a house being completely filled with popcorn is exciting (later recreated in the movie Real Genius), and the cartoonish illustrations provide a strong visual.I'm not sure that this book is particularly instructive or informative, but it is very fun, and I think most children would come back to it time and again.
One of the greatest childrens books of all time. Many of my gereration grew up on this book (late 70's early 80's). I got this book for my own children and they cherish the adorable, funny story and artwork as much as I do...well almost as much! Unfortunatly it is out of print. I have many parent educator friends request and ask where they can get a copy...bring it back!!!!
Both of my children loved this book. We wore out the first copy and had to rebuy it because it had been loved to tatters.My 21 year old son still has his well-loved copy in his bookshelf.I hope it comes into print again because it is a charming and engaging read-aloud story.
Frank Asch was on my entering kindergartners Summer Reading List (they simply stated "anything by this author") and to tell you the truth we were not familiar with his work. "Popcorn" changed all that. My 3 year-old son loves this book and my 5 year-old daughter likes it too.Mr. Asch has a real talent for finding topics that children find fascinating. In this case, there were two topics: Halloween and popcorn.Essentially, the other reviewers are right. This is a good, if not great, book for children that they will read (or have you read) over and over.**See also, [...] for the author reading some of his stories. My kids just loved it!
Please look carefully at the product specs, especially the size: 5.3 x 4.1 x 0.4 inchesI bought it because I loved this book as a child and the large version was way overpriced, but this mini book was not worth $4...maybe $2. It would make a nice stocking stuffer or Easter basket goodie but it's not really sturdy enough for children to use, and the type is too small for a early reader to comfortably read.I was so excited about finding this book that I overlooked the size. I absolutely love this story, just not this copy! My kids sat on the floor around me and I read this to them, and they could barely see the pictures because of the "mini"ness of this book.
I sent this to my family's little girls. Their Mom wrote that she had read it when she was young and loved it. So, I knew I had chosen the right book. The condition stated was the condition it came in- actually I thought it would be more than just the littlest wrinkled on the cover and I was very pleased.
