These are some of my favorites. I love the older Berenstain stories better than the newer ones. They have so much more humor and character. I couldn't wait to share them with my kids. It had them all laughing. I'm surprised at the negative review. Where is their sense of humor? This is great fun that you and your kids will love unless you're a stick in the mud :) or you take them too seriously.
Really great compilation of books. None of them are really cannon with the Berenstain Bear family series and contain what I consider prototypes of the characters. They are still great reads and really do make good beginner reader books. The first three stories follow a similar format of lessons/discussion between Papa and Small Bear and are pretty amusing in how all of Papa's attempts at teaching his son tend to backfire on him, they still get the message through. The next two stories use simpler sentences/phrases and are really the best to start with for a beginner reader, especially Bears in the Night. All the books make great use of rhythm and/or rhyme that makes reading fun and easier to remember. I grew up on the Berenstain Bear family, so this was a must-have item for our bookshelf.
The book is good and the stories are long but pretty simple (easy for a 4-year-old to follow). The rhyming and repetition are wonderful tools to help my son learn to read, and the stories are very silly (Papa Bear is a great example of "what not to do").The darker stories can be a little scary to the kiddos, but I've found if we focus on another aspect in the story (like how the bears lost their tools (for lack of a better word), or the excitement of all the little passageways in the tree), my boy is still intrigued (though snuggling close--a bonus, I think!) and doesn't have nightmares. This was another book we checked out at the library for a while before we decided to add it to our own. We definitely enjoy reading it together.
This book has some of the older and better Berenstain Bear books in the collection. It features: The Bike Lesson, The Bear's Picnic, The Bears' Vacation, Bears in the Night, The Spooky Old Tree, and The Missing Dinosaur Bone. All are classics that my children love without any of some of the newer, stranger, and just plain bad Berenstain Bear books that have been published in more recent years. This collection is good for both girls and boys. My 3 year old daughter loves having all these stories read to her and they are very fast paced. My 6 year old son also likes these books and enjoys being able to read them himself. All in all, these books are great price and enjoyable to read over and over again. We liked these so much I bought this book for our nephews. I would recommend this to others.
The child that received this was very happy and was looking forward to the stories. He even had several stories read to him the day he opened it up. The smiles, entertainment, and lessons are worth it.
Have always loved the Berenstain Bear books. This is a nice find with so many of their stories in one book. The stories aren't so long that the kids loose interest, yet they are not too simple that the books are out grown quickly. This is a nice grandma book, one to have on hand when the grandkids come to stay. Enjoyable for everyone.
Wonderful stories. I bought and read these to my children when they were younger and I bought two copies for my two young grand daughters. Some reviewers complained about the binding but I did not have any problem with the binding -- though the books are too advanced for the child to chew on. Overall a good buy and well worth reading to your young children.
my kiddos are big book lovers, and we stumbled across the Berenstain Bears on our last vacation. This book has six short stories perfect for toddlers. The stories rhyme perfectly, are fun to read, have just a few words per page, and the kiddos (ages 2 and 4) love story time with this book.
