I am a school teacher and over the years I have read this book to hundreds of children of primary age. They have all loved it. The story line is amusing and the illustrations are fantastic. It is good to use with younger children and get them to predict what the next part of the story is going to be. I was very pleased to see that this book is still in print as I have had over 10 years of fun out of it already.

Edward the Emu was tired of the Zoo and tired of being an emu. The book chronicles Edward's attempts at being something he is not - a seal, a lion, a snake etc. The illustrations are hilarious and the story captivates both old and young alike. This book is a perfect springboard in the classroom, and can be used as a prelude to a curriculum emphasis on positive self-image. So that all children realise that even though everyone is different, they are still a worthwhile and productive person, no matter what !

This is a delightful story about an emu who thinks being himself just isn't enough. In this book we spend several days with Edward as he tries to make himself more acceptable to others. He finally discovers that being himself is the best thing he can do. This book is a wonderful resource for teaching self-concept to young children, while at the same time offering an entertaining adventure for the older child. It is a must for all children's libraries.

I've read this a million times.....and will most likely read a million more! Since the rhyming search for happiness in his own skin is fun to read and the illustrations fit delightfully with the text, I am always happy to read it again! We all have fun with these books! (Check out Edwina the Emu!!!!)

I LOVE Edward!!! I stumble upon the book a couple years ago at work. I was an Early Head Start (0-3 yr olds) teacher and this book showed up in our collection one day from another site. My co-teacher and I instantly fell in love and the children followed shortly. The illustrations are magnificent and the rhythm of the story makes it fun and easy to read. I recommend Edward to all of the my friends with little ones. It belongs in every home.

This is one of my favorite children's books. When my kids were young, I originally bought this book at a zoo. Since then I've bought it for all of my nieces and nephews as gifts. It is always a big hit with the kids and parents alike.

I just got this book for my 2 year old little girl. She loves all the pictures of the animals. The illustrations are amazing! I love how it rhymes so it's fun to read aloud. Very sweet story line of an emu who wants to be different animals at the zoo because he thinks being an emu is a bore. Every kid library should have this book! Highly recommend!

The story of Edward always striving to be more important is humorous and well illustrated. This and the "sequel" Edwina have become new favorites in our house. Our two year old now points out Emu's everywhere. Short text, great pictures makes this an easy bedtime read with both our 2 and 4 year old.
