Our 7 year old son LOVES minecraft and loves this book. It has been so fun to read it together (as a parent I've learned a lot about minecraft from it)! It fuels his imagination and its so fun to read something and the next day he is putting it into practice but then anxious to go back to the book and learn some more. My husband and I love that it encourages his imagination but also propels him to want to read and learn from books rather than just watching YouTube. I highly recommend this book as a way for parents to engage in an activitiy with their kiddos if they enjoy minecraft. I was oblivious (I'm embarrassed to admit that) as to the intricacies of minecraft and what the imagination of a little boy is capable of. Pretty amazing!
This is a good, though incomplete, encyclopedia to the Minecraft universe. The writing is solid and gives you a good understanding of each topic, and the illustrations appear to be taken from the game directly and accurately show what each topic looks like, however, the low gloss pages mute the color and contrast, compared to how things appear in the actual game.The missing items are mostly the things you collect, which are pretty important. If you read the entire encyclopedia you *will* find references to some of the items here and there. But for a book that touts itself as ultimate it is anything but, and I was a little disappointed that I could not find topics for many things my son was interested in learning more about. But I guess there's always the Internet.
My son has become an addict. He has the game on the 360. And at age five he knows so much about it. We got this book to read at bedtime so he can learn more. What I read goes in one ear and out the other. But for him it sticks. And if he has a question, he asks me to look it up and read it to him. Man..... I can't wait until he can start reading for himself. He's excited to save up and get more minedcraft books. Knowledge is power.
This is the book my minecraft loving son has been begging me for. He already owns the Minecraft: The Complete Handbook Collection but says this book is better than that whole set. I can't verify what he is saying since I haven't read the books myself. Apparently this book is the one that tells him how to really play the game.
I bought this for my grandson. He loves it. He was already reading it at his birthday party.
