Ada's Ideas: The Story Of Ada Lovelace, The World's First Computer Programmer
Read Free Books and Download eBooks

Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) was the daughter of Lord Byron, a poet, and Anna Isabella Milbanke, a mathematician. Her parents separated when she was young, and her mother insisted on a logic-focused education, rejecting Byron’s “mad” love of poetry. But Ada remained fascinated with her father and considered mathematics “poetical science.” Via her friendship with inventor Charles Babbage, she became involved in “programming” his Analytical Engine, a precursor to the computer, thus becoming the world’s first computer programmer. This picture book biography of Ada Lovelace is a compelling portrait of a woman who saw the potential for numbers to make art.

My daughter and I LOVE picture book biographies. "Ada's Ideas: The Story of Ada Lovelace, the World's First Computer Programmer" written and illustrated by Fiona Robinson. This book is loaded with inspiration. Ada (1815-1852) was the daughter of a wild, creative poet and a proper, wealthy mathematician. This honest interpretation of her life tells the story of a difficult childhood. Parents whom separated, a hardworking life of studies, very little fun or friendship and becoming ill with measles. But through all that her determination to create never ceased. As an adult she befriended an inventor who led her to her work as a programmer. Together they created the "Analytical Engine" of which Ada created the algorithm. 100 years after Ada's death the first working computers were created. Ada saw a future others could not. A really cool and informative book with great illustrations. I'd say this book is great for ages 6-10.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinions. I was in no way compensated for this review. My opinions are honest and my own.

Ada Lovelace was a genuine genius, and in an important sense, she invented computer programming. However, she also faced a long illness which kept her more or less bed-ridden, so she used that time to study and learn, which eventually led to her discoveries. My daughter loves this book! The prose is lovely, the story engaging, and the paper-cut-out style illustrations are fantastic.

Ada's Ideas is a beautifully illustrated book. I highly recommend it. My 8 year old loves it!
