I work for the Girl Scouts and have read many books about Juliette Gordon Low. This was a wonderful book to read to our younger girls - Daisies and Brownies. The story used words of the time, which will make the girls of today giggle. The coloring of the pages depicted the era in which she grew up. We have a volunteer who does story hours as Juliette and she brought the book to my attention. Highly recommend to read to younger girls.

I have mixed feelings about the Girl Scouts as an organization - many troops these days seem to spend a lot of time selling cookies and very little time empowering girls. This book, however, is a picture of how the Girl Scouts SHOULD be, and how they were conceived by their founder. The story itself is inspirational, with this feisty girl overcoming societal norms and doing what she wants to do rather than what's expected of her. But the writing and the illustrations are what really make it come alive for young readers. My children already quote frequently from Corey's previous books You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer and Milly and the Macy's Parade (Scholastic Bookshelf: Holiday) with lines like, "Mom, I am NOT a proper lady!" I know this one will join that group soon. I plan to give it to my daughter's Girl Scout leader, too!

I bought this for my Brownie troop while they worked on their story telling badge. I have to say I think it is a great book. It is full of lots of information about Juliette and how she started the Girl Scouts. It also has lots of neat sayings sprinkled throughout. The girls did find it difficult to read a loud because the got confused with what was part of the story and what was a saying. Still I would highly recommend it for younger girl scouts and their leaders.

A wonderful book about Juliette Gordon Low' life, easy to read, for all ages. A great addition to any Girl Scout Troop's library, parents to read with their Girl Scouts or for any adult, just to have. The illustrations are bright and colorful. Loved it!

What an inspiring story of an inspiring woman! I can't wait to buy this book (yes, BUY; I am a librarian and I do not usually BUY books!) for my mother to read to my daughter--our family is already four generations of Girl Scouts strong! An ideal gift for any Girl Scout!

Once again, author Shana Corey has created a fun and wonderfully informative picture book about a great woman from history! Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Girl Scouts comes this engaging title. Both the world of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, and the beginnings of Girl Scout history come to life through the words and just-perfect illustrations. I read this to my daughter's 2nd grade Brownie troop, and the girls loved it. Another mom commented that the girls were "rapt," which is saying a lot for a group of 11 seven-year-olds! This is the book for you if you are a Girl Scout, were a Girl Scout, or have a Girl Scout in your life with whom you would love to share a fantastic picture book.

Why wasn't this book around when I was a little Girl Scout? Sadly, I rarely ran across stories of strong girls who grew up to be strong women. I wish I'd heard Daisy's story when I was young. I'm happy that girls of today can get to know her through this great book.Daisy, despite becoming deaf in one ear, lived an adventurous life, learning blacksmithing and riding elephants in India, in a time when women rarely left their homes. Then she discovered Boy Scouts and she was determined to create something like it for girls in America. The author and illustrator work together to create a book that reminds us that girls were not always free to explore as they are today and to create the inspiring story of a courageous and daring woman that has given girls today bigger lives.

"Here Come the Girl Scouts" is a fun, beautifully illustrated book about the founder of the Girl Scouts in America. My daughter picked this book up at the library, we took it home to read, and the next day - we registered her for scouting- it made her THAT excited!! People seem confused as to what Girl Scouts actually DO, aside from camping out and selling delicious cookies, and this book is a good, easy to understand explanation of the Girl Scouts. I read this book at all of our recruitment event for Girl Scouts as well as award this book in a raffle for all events I lead for younger troops! A must read, must own book for younger scouts!
