She couldn't go to college. She couldn't become a politician. She couldn't even vote. But Elizabeth Cady Stanton didn't let that stop her.She called on women across the nation to stand together and demand to be treated as equal to men-and that included the right to vote. It took nearly seventy-five years and generations of women fighting for their rights through words, through action, and through pure determination . . . for things to slowly begin to change. With the help of these trailblazers' own words, Doreen Rappaport's engaging text, brought to life by Matt Faulkner's vibrant illustrations, shows readers just how far this revolution has come, and inspires them to keep it going!Select praise for Doreen Rappaport: Martin's Big Words* 2002 Caldecott Honor Book* 2002 Coretta Scott King Honor Book* Child Magazine Best Book of 2001* New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Children's Book of 2001 * "A stunning, reverent tribute." -School Library Journal, starred reviewAbe's Honest Words* "Exceptional art, along with Rappaport's and Lincoln's words, makes this a fine celebration of a man who needs little introduction." -Booklist, starred review Eleanor, Quiet No More* "Once again Rappaport celebrates a noble, heroic life in powerful, succinct prose, with prominent, well-chosen, and judiciously placed quotes that both instruct and inspire...Celebrate women in history and in politics with this picture-book life." -School Library Journal, starred review Helen's Big World* "Stirring and awe-inspiring." -The Horn Book, starred review To Dare Mighty Things* "[T]his lavish picture-book biography deftly captures the legendary man's bold, exuberant nature. . . . Highly engaging and informative book!! The only good children's book I've found about women's rights. Highly recommended for grades 1-6.Very important book as children don't learn about women's history at school.Girls should know the historical events that allowed to the lifestyle and freedoms they can have.On a field trip, I pointed to an old photograph of women and told students that women had to "win" the right to wear pants. They were shocked. Learning about women's history helps girls turn into strong women. They should be aware that they may face prejudice, that there is still much work to be done in getting fair treatment for American women, and that many omen in the world have very few rights.

My nine year old granddaughter was inspired by this book to enter an essay contest in Philadelphia about Abigail Adams. She gets it. She sees the history of women's rights having read this book and is inspired by the women who preceded her. Highly recommended.

We checked this book out from the library because my son saw it on a "new books" shelf. I'm so glad we did! It's an excellent book about the history of the suffragette movement in the United States. It's factual and historical, but keeps the concepts to a child's level. I will be purchasing this book and would recommend to everyone.

Insightful story about suffrage. Little girls everywhere need to have it near.
