Great summary of his life in a graphic novel format.

This graphic biography (think comic book) is a pleasant introduction for young readers into the life of Cesar Chavez, whose name is heroic to many who would probably shy away from the brutal tactics employed by Chavez's union organizers. This book does not deal with the violence inflicted on the farm laborers by the organizers, and that is good. It also takes a pass on explaining Chavez's stated goal to keep the immigrant laborers in poverty, so the Great Leader Chavez would continue to have a cause to champion. It's OK to protect kids from the immoral actions of historical people -- let kids have their heroes undiminished for a few years. The graphic format will appeal to kids who might not be ready for an entire biography, but the comic book format may not meet the requirements for a school report. Check with your child's teacher before selecting this book for an assignment.Very nice illustrations; easy to follow the action and dialog.
