I ordered this book for my two year old grandson to accompany a Twilight Turtle. The cover illustration looks sweet and cartoony, so I assumed it would be a nice compliment to the toy. Not so. This is not a storybook, it is a series of three "legends". It offers three explainations for how the turtle got its shell all related to protecting the innocent turtle from sure death by (a) murderous band of jealous Indians, (b) a clumsy Hermes, or (c) vicious wild animals with claws, teeth, stingers and such. Rather counteracts my intent to give him a Twilight Turtle to calm his fears of the dark and comfort him at bedtime. It's not worth shipping back for $3.99 but I'm certainly not giving it to my grandson.
I have enjoyed golden books since I was little kid and lookinig forward to sharing these stories with my son. Perfect size book and excellent amount of pages to read before bedtime not to mention the great illustrations.
This is a great book for any child. My daughter loves when I read it to her and plan to keep it for her enjoyment forever. Beautiful artwork too.
I thought this book would be more scientific than it was. Perhaps for a young reader it had to be just a few stories as to how the turtle got its shell? However, as with all our past Little Golden Books, it was charming with lovely illustrations!
I bought this for my 9 month old grandson because he has many turtle-featured toys and clothes. My daughter reads it to him almost every night now. Good little book with a cute story.
