I have a granddaughter that is 7 and loves snake books. What's so good about this one is that she can read it by herself or just look at thepictures. It's just short enough to keep her attention and the pictureslook like they could jump out of the book. I will be buying her more National Geographic Kids books in the future.

There is something about snakes that certainly makes my skin crawl, but so many kids are fascinated by them. Snakes! is part of National Geographic's series for Early Readers, and combines clear information with stunning photographs. This book has detailed information, supported by clear, concise explanations. I particularly liked how the author included definitions of new words right on the page. For example, I learned that scutes are the "wide scales on the belly of a snake." New words are set in eye-catching boxes on the pages that use them. In addition, the pictures are clearly labeled, often with arrows pointing out important points. Kids will clearly see the difference between a snakes' scales and skin. But best of all, are the pictures. I just wish I could show you some of the inside photos. They grabbed my attention, and give me the slithery willies. But then, I'm not a snake lover. I know many little kids that will be all over this book.

I'm not a big fan of snakes but my 5 year old son loves them. He's also learning to read and he's enjoyed his other National Geographic Kids books so it was an easy decision to purchase this book. Snakes was a very vivid and informative book. There are a lot of bright colors, interesting facts, and new vocabulary words. This was another great edition to our collection.

My 6-year old grandson is really afraid of snakes. Using "knowledge is power", thinking, I bought him this book. He loves it, and his 8 year old brother may love it a little more!. It is a hit. So far it seems to be helping. Very satisfied with this purchase, and I would recommend it for appropriate age groups

My 6 year old loves the pictures. They are beautiful. The science facts are excellent, adding a few we didn't know. The best bit, though, is the silly riddles and puns at the top of half the pages. Really appeals to this age's sense of humor.

How can I forget the snakes? Our boys are fascinated by "the yucky stuff" and this one fits the bill just fine, along with the spiders, bats and lizards. The 6 1/2 year old reads them to his yonder brother and they both love the pictures.

My 8-year- old niece loves science and nature. This series of National Geographic books are her favorites, filed with fun facts and great photos. In her second grade class they ask that we read 20 minutes a night, and these books make that goal fun!

National Geographic Kids always has interesting books with stunning photography that kids will love and learn from. This addition Snakes! is particularly good because of the always wonderful Melissa Stewart, each of her non-fiction works is written in a way that is easy to understand, and attention-grabbing for young readers on up. I learned sssso much about thisss interessssting inhabitant of our planet; sssssenssssational!
