This is a fun and clever book with wonderful illustrations. I bought it as a gift for a two year old. It is perfect for toddler/preschool age because in addition to having "lift the flap" features (which kids love!) there are lots of opportunities in the book to continue the conversation, such as asking the child to identify certain colors.
I have 5 kids at home and am an avid supporter of reading to your kids starting when they are old enough to sit on your lap. That being said I have seen MANY MANY MANY children's books and this one is fantastic for kids ages 18 mo+. The artwork is AMAZING. Salina Yoon's illustrations of the diffferent snakes are so clever. While there are not many words in the book (straight snake, tangled snake....) the pictures give you a lot to talk about. (My personal favorite it the clean snake in the ultra long bathtub with the long towel folded over and over next to the tub.) My 3 year old enjoys flipping up the flaps and laughing at the different snakes. He likes being able to "read" the book by himself. My older kids thought it was great too. This is one of those books I found at the library and immediately ordered it on .
The text and illustrations work very well together and is one of those books that has new things to discover with each reading: different colors, different snake expressions, different things going on, etc. As a parent, I really appreciate this!
My almost 2 year old loves this book! She really loves the flaps, though it took her a while to get used to it as she had trouble seeing they were there.
My 4 year old daughter loves this book, nice quality, hardcover, pages are nice and sturdy and can stand up to a toddler, very satisfied
I am a teacher. The kids love this book. It folds out twice its size. Recently retired. Saving it for my granddaughter.
