These books are great! I highly recommend these for the younger crowd that is learning how to read. The books are about half the height of the regular-sized books and have maybe 8-10 pages of short sentences.Kids that are already proficient readers probably won't get much out of these. They're easy books and take a minute or two to read. There's not much substance to them.My four year-old is highly impressed with them. He repeats after me and I wouldn't call it "reading", but it's a good first step!
I really didn't know what to expect when I ordered the TMNT Phonics Power for my six year old son. However, when it came in he was so excited to get started! We do one book a week and it's amazing at how much attention he pays to the words because it's the TMNT! The books are short enough to hold their attention, but have a great deal of words to help with phonics. I'm one happy homeschooling mom!
This set is so great I plan to purchase more of the phonics series. My kindergartener is intimidated by long books; we usually only have him read a few pages ave we read the rest. These books are short, but he can read a whole book and feel proud of himself that he finished it on his own. Bonus, they have focuses on sounds ave vowels. Great for beginners.
My son is 7 and struggles with reading so he doesn't enjoy it and it's a battle to get him to read anything. These are quick easy reads for him and since they are TMNT he enjoys them. They reinforce vowel sounds and letter blends and have actually helped him with his reading.
Smaller than I thought, but still a neat little set of books for new readers. I also loved the fact that they offer the books with the latest popular characters because it helps keep kids interested in wanting to read
Pros - I think this product can be useful in helping my little ones with reading and speech as we read together and sound out words. Also they arrived in a fairly short amount of time.Cons - That being said while the color and artwork is nice and well done, these books are small and thin, will easily tear and ripe in the small hands of little children who have not learned to respect books. These book could have been done with better quality to the sturdiness of the books.
This book set engaged my child who does not love reading and helped with phonics. I would recommend this book set and the price through was definitely better than Scholastic reader where my child found the book in the first place. The books are small and short but great for an early start reader.
I work as a teacher's aid in a special education middle school classroom. Our class is a self contained, MID class. Our students range from abilities, but they are all lower intellects. They all have troubles with reading and read at beginning levels. I'm a former elementary teacher and when I started working as an aid last year, I suggested that we use phonics reading sets to work with all of the kids. I collected a few sets last year and we had some success with them. I wanted to get something new for this year, so I found this set. One of the biggest issues with our students is finding material that is interesting to them. They are teenagers and a lot of the phonics sets are too babyish for them. These books are fun and interesting to them. We're not reading things like "see the cat". The stories are engaging to them. Most of the vocabulary is okay. They do struggle with some of the names of the turtles, but some of the kids are familiar with them already, so their prior knowledge helps them. I wish there were more sets like this with the appeal to older kids.
