A 2013 Dorling Kindersley/Smithsonian release, EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SNAKE AND OTHER SCALY REPTILES is geared to readers ages 7-11. Having said that, older readers would enjoy this once-over, well-illustrated guide to snakes and assorted creepy crawlies as well.The book's 80 pages are fairly evenly divided between snakes and reptiles with units on prehistoric monster snakes, adders, rattlesnakes, snake charmers, snake skin/fangs/venom/hibernation habits/etc., spitting cobras, python vs. alligator match-ups, snake tales, chameleons, crocs, turtles, iguanas, Komodo Dragons, desert dwellers and so on. The text is informative and flows easily. The book is appealingly illustrated with dozens of photographs, illustrations and maps. Visually, the book is top-notch.Whatever their age, people interested in our forked-tongue, fanged, scaly friends will enjoy this book. Recommended.
Got this book for my 3-year-old boy who loves to watch snakes on youtube. The intention was to reduce screen and apparently it works at some point. he loves it!! The book is printed with good quality paper. great diversity in color, font and layout. It was wonderful that parents can learn something new too through reading with kids. Recommended!
This is the 2nd snake book I bought for my twins (about reptiles) a while back. Great reading and great family closeness and very informative for adults to boot. What I like the most is watching the boys facial expressions and answering questions they bring up about snakes. The boys cant wait till we sit down and ready more about snakes. and Vendors, keep up the good work, your efforts have been a blessing to all American Families.
MY son's favorite snake book. Ok, favorite book period. He is 5 1/2 and loves snakes. He is also very persnickety in general, and he told me this book was his favorite Christmas present this year!This has enough pages, pictures, and topics to keep him interested, but not so many pages or facts that it is overwhelms him. It is perfect for age 4 or 5 through age 8 I would say, or older depending on your child's needs and temperament. My son is not reading, so I read it to him, so from that point of view, I like that the facts and text is short enough that I can read it to him without boring him. It will be good for for a reader, although some of the words might be challenging.It is a lot of pages and info, so many nights I only read half of it to my son (partly because he dilly dallies and asks a million questions per page and I have two other kids to read to!).The pictures are top notch. Some are pretty intense photos of fangs and such, but if your kid is interested in snakes, that is probably exactly what they want to see. It is intense but nothing to give the kid nightmares. My 3 year old son also likes to look at it, and it doesn't seem to intense for him. Ditto with my ultra girly, hates bugs and snakes, 7 year old daughter. She actually looks at it, even though usually photos of snakes kind of scare her. There are a few pictures of snakes eating things, but they are not gruesome.I highly recommend this for the snake loving kid in your life!
My 8-year-old son is a snake fanatic and he loves this book! He has caught a dozen harmless snakes on our property and spends a lot of time with them. Thanks to this book, he can now tell you just about anything you want to know and more.
My stepson LOVES this book! He is 5 so can't really read this so the illustrations and pictures are important, which he loves! He wants to "read" this book every night!
I ordered several copies of this book for my grandchildren. This is very good material for introducing children to snakes, etc. Quality product.
